Anyone know much about Valtronic Servo Motor

i was intend to diagnosis my car due to the I-drive (Freeze), However they could not determine the exact problem just advise me to update the software which cost me 370, furthermore this may not 100% solve the issue.

Also occassionally i could smell some hot black air through my air-con during the wait of the trafffic light. Hence, i get them to check as well,

Well, after the diagnosis my car came out a result of Valtronic Servo Motor faulty. Is this related to the black air??

Anyone know much about this? My car still can driveable , which i don't feel any error except for the smell from the air con during the wait.

If i let it be without fixing the problem, what will it be. Any advise?

Hey mate.

Had my valvetronic motor replaced a while ago because the car was losing power. Also had a few oil leaks which caused smoke to come from engine bay. Don't think they were related. I think the part alone was $600ish i think.

The 320i is very prone to oil leak from the valvertronic servo motor which is located towards the back of the engine. I had that replaced under warranty but the occasional burnt oil smell still came through every now and then. They replaced the tappet cover gasket 2 times as they could see where the oil was bleeding through and in the end also had to replace the tappet cover as they discovered it had a very small crack which was actually the reason for the oil seepage. All done just 1 month before warranty finished. I still have the 320 and 3 months later, no more oil smells [touch wood].

My e9o has just been diagnosed with valvetronic motor, going in next week for three days. dreading the cost. Had no oil smells, just limp mode and now won't start. What stupid invention by BMW. Hope they solve the problem so I can get rid of it. Back to Honda for me

The thing that's on the back of the engine causing oil leak in 320i is the vacuum pump. Valvertronic motor is the one sitting on top of the rocker cover. It does not leak oil.

Valvetronic motor dose not need re-coding. You can only re-initialize them. But re-initialization is perform everytime you switch the ignition on anyway.
