wheels changed and so has steering

I recently changed the wheels on my car and it seems like the steering may have been affected.

I went from 19's to 19's but replica 313 as opposed to the oem 225 wheels.

The steering at low speeds was alot lighter and coming close to the limit the steering feels very light and floaty. (Doesnt really give a confident feel) Not sure if i'm explaining this very well but any ideas?

Have you checked your tyre pressures?

Same size as OEM 225's with a slightly different offset.
225's are ET37 fr & ET39 rear,so the wheels shouldn't be your problem unless there a ridiculously lower weight than OEM (doubtful).

Did you swop the tyres over from the 225's to the reps?

Check the pressures as others have suggested.

I didnt check the weight of the wheels but i did notice the 225's felt heavier to lift compared to the new ones. If they are lighter is there something i need to get adjusted?

I had the old tyres put on the new wheels.

I very much doubt it's the wheels parrp,I run Alufelgen's which are considerably lighter than my 225's,and don't have a problem.

Check your pressures, and if the problem persists,it's a question of trial and error to get the pressures right.

I use 38psi front,40psi rear on non run flats,if that helps as a starting point.

After swapping the tyres

Make sure pressures are within tolerance.

Make sure Direction of rotation arrows are correct.

Did you maintain L & R integrity when the tyres were swapped i.e LF went back on LF and so on?

Are the wider wheels on the back? Daft questions but someone posted a pic a few weeks ago with back to front wheels so just in case the tyre fitter wasn't aware of the asymetry.

Thanks mate, i'll try the pressure tweak firstly to see if this fixes it.

I still have bridgestone run flats on but was going to change those.

I had them changed at a main BMW dealer as they were doing cheaper fitting than anywhere else i could find.

I'd hope the integrity and rotation arrors are all correct.. will check this as well.

Many thanks

45 quid all in for fitting on the winter tyre offer. Most other places wanted 15 a corner.

Maybe a little low?

That sounds a little low for 35 profile tyres....my 330d needed 39 and 43 to sit nicely. Just a little less and the steering became 'floaty' as you describe.

Check the tyre inflation label on the doorframe to get the OEM's recommendations
