broken lugs on bumper
Hello all,
Just had a quick question, is it safe to buy a bumper with broken lugs / repaired lugs? and how would one go about repairing the lugs? thanks |

I did. I take it you mean the thin ones that break when your taking the bumper off. I repaired mine using lock wire. That was on a rear m sport bumper I bought.

I think they may help hold the bumper in if you know what I mean. I would buy it. What are the chances of getting one without them being damaged.

simple fix w/ sheet metal/tin snips/rivets and maybe some plastic weld (different names/products) I have re-created the "attaching point" with the sheet metal and made the hole w/ a drill and attached it to the car again.

If you look at the diagrams for the bumper there is a small metal bracket that sits inside the bumper where the screws go through into the wing.
It reduces the stress on the plastic lugs, so of yours have gone the bracket could be glued in and it would be fine. See pics below (no 8 in the diagram) Last edited by Stringbag; 06-11-2012 at 06:11 AM.. |
