Ride Height vs Camber vs Toe

Ride Height -- Camber -- Toe

Where can I go to educate myself on the above? So far, my search has revealed little other than that they are related.

Naturally, all depends on fixed Caster. Need interrelationships, particularly as affected by changed ride height!

Ride Height will change the relationships of all your alignment depending on the type of suspension you have.

[1] Yeppur....looking for info specific to E9x. Finding none.

[2] Anyone with alignment tools, bar, plate; laser etc., give your opinion o'same!

[3] Do you use alignment software? Suppose I could write a spreadsheet, but have no desire to reinvent. Yet, if I must....will post.

The front suspension of these cars isn't anything special. The rear is more complicated thanks to BMW's subframe setup and inboard springs.

This is E9x M3 specific but a lot applies to our non-Ms as well:

This isn't E9x specific but is a good overview article of suspension lowering issues:

Our cars suffer from the same shortcomings that pretty much all MacPhearson cars do ...

Then you can try this site, Circle Track magazine - it is focused on race cars but you can derive street car stuff out of it:

Okee Dokee....used string & jack stands t'measure toe. Tried and true, but looked very open to small error. Given that toe measurement should have a min resolution of 1/32", hey....

Measured camber w/iPhone & 19" aluminum extrusion. Prob need a plumb bob, but looked accurate enough. iPhone reputed to be accurate to 0.1°, or 6' - maybe enough for the range of 07' to -43' front end.

Especially you scribe & laser jockeys -- whatcha say?

There are some great books you can purchase directly from Amazon that are good reads. Chassis Engineering is a good example. It was published years ago, but the concepts are very clearly explained and easy to understand.

Nice, I think you will like it! It really breaks everything down nicely.

Can't say that I have read that second book you posted and I have read many. May have to look into that one...

Turns out to be a series of problems w/CD-ROM Calcs, companion to Race Car Vehicle Dynamics. Not too terrible really....a good brush up: Algebra, Calculus; Matrices.

So, another Amazon Prime order up....
