New Civil Penalities For Driving Violations in VA

Yes, in Virginia as of July 1, 2007, you will be fined + court costs as usual from the courts.

PLUS

DMV will tack on for THREE years a civil penalty when you renew at DMV.

Read Link, no kidding.

http://www.courts.state.va.us/publications/hb_3202.pdf

Be sure to read all of the violations. Expensive Now.

Be very careful.

Dean

This thing blows... Your fine can be something 2k or 3k, right? And this is to help fund fixing the roads???

Is there no sales tax in VA to fund the roads?

Yes, there is a sales tax, property tax on the vehicle and a gasoline tax, you would think that there would be enough money for the roads.

Yes, you are right if your civil penalty is, say $1,050.00 then they spread it over three years ($350.00) per year, paid at your renewal so they have you.

Also this allows the state to be able to plan on this money coming in for the next three years into the budget.

I'm moving.

That's just one more reason why I'm thinking of "fully" retiring and moving west.

me 2 and i am serious about this. this is ridiculous.
VA is a tiny state compared to some and they have more roads than we do, but unfortunately only we need to pay property tax on car and now this.
gee wiz...
moving to MD.
