I was in the south of France and this hotty was driving a Z4m roadster. That car didn't look girly and I was getting pretty hot under the collar seeing her and listening to it!!

roadster - z4m only, M is always a mans car, period

So in your price bracket, coupe it is

Bought the roadster.

In the end I convinced myself by having a short blast on some B roads with the top down, great fun and it felt like a wee treat after being stuck in a steel box. Test driving the coupe didn't feel that special (can't see the fact the car looks stunning when you are sitting in it). I have no doubts that the coupe was the better car if you were looking for something to belt round a track. It felt miles stiffer than the roadster but that was it's downfall on the roads around here. I was hunching my shoulders and cringing whenever i hit rough patches.

The saving was also a big contributing factor. I like to fart about with my cars but there wasn't any change left in the toy kitty if I bought the coupe. Got enough left now to keep me busy for a good while, first mod sound generator. Fingers crossed we get a good summer.

A quick question, did you look at insurance costs before you bought the roadster?

I'm still looking at a coupe but priced up the insurance on both and the roadster was almost double to insure, probably because off the roof .

REALLY!!!!

It's only 50 more for me to insure the roadster over the coupe but i guess my situation is very different. 36 years old, car on secure driveway only doing about 6000 miles per year social only and live in an area that is the second lowest risk category so only 350 via Swift cover. Quite a few people on the Z4 forum seem to be with them.

I believe the roadster is one of the most vandalised cars in the UK. Must be a lot of people annoyed about their bad haircut

Welcome to the hairdressers club

I'm 36 too and living in a decent area but my Zed costs a chunk more than 350 to insure . Then again, if I took off my exhaust it'd be somewhere near (ish), ah well, money well spent IMO .

Haha, I'm going to go start a fight outside a pub tonight in an attempt to reassert my manlyness I think

Dare say your Zed costs a fair bit more than mine Roger although I doubt insurance companies work it out that way. They seems to use a random number generator like the one on Countdown.

Think you'll have to try a bit harder than that; isn't that just normal in Glasgow .

Never one not to be able to laugh at myself. Doesn't feel like a hairdressers car from behind the wheel though, plenty of poke.

No pics yet as not got time to pick it up until tomorrow. Car looks a bit poo at the moment anyway on it's standard 17" wheels.

Suffered a bit of buyers remorse this morning, always happens to me but not aided by the country still being in the middle of winter. Any doubts will fade when i get behind the wheel.

Yeah, being a 2003 car it's got the old M54 3.0 rather than the newer engine. Only on 52k miles as it's always been a toy and all 3 previous owners knew each other (2 were brothers). Current owner is one of the directors of Supagard so he had it detailed and supagardeded meaning the paint is spot on.

Good stuff a Z4 will make a great second car especially with the 3.0l. I had a Z4 roadster and mine was on 18 run flats and sitting over the back axle the ride was rubbish. This may be why you prefered the roadster if it was on smaller wheels. 18s have the bling but I reakon if you can live with the looks the17s are the keen driver choice.

Sitting in the drivers seat, straight six, roof down with the long bonnet ahead of you on a summers evening has to still be one of the best real world driving experiences.

Look forward to the pics, great car in the launch colour combo, bring on the sun..

I think the fact the roadster was on 17s did make a bit of difference but I think the fact it had SE suspension also helped. I normally don't complain about ride quality as every car I've owned has had some kind of sports suspension with my last car being an Audi with s-line struts and Eibach pro-line springs. It was harsh but the Z4 coupe I looked at was almost unbearable on the roads around here. I'm sure it would be great for track but the car wasn't being bought for that purpose. The suspension actually reminded me of a CSL.

My wife had an mx5 years ago and I never really liked being in that with the roof down. I felt very exposed. The z4 was totally different, it fitted me better and the sound track was great in more ways than one (the car has the carver upgrade now known as 7fl i think so 10 speakers squeezed there).

Thanks for the positive comments. I'll get some pics next time the sun shines or rather if it ever shines again.

From memory the 3.0L came with the M sport suspension as standard. It was only the 2.2 & 2.5 that had the regular SE set up from the factory with the M sport as an option.

Really! God, that extra inch of wheel and a roof really made a massive difference then. Especially since both were on exactly the same tyres just a different size.

Lovely weather to collect a roadster - at least you'll quickly find out if it leaks!!!

It was a lovely sunny day up here. Until I picked the car up It's a lovely evening now though.

The roof got a good test and I can confirm that it is as water tight as a ducks arse.

Crap pic (enough to get the idea) taken while out for a quick blast last night. I'll get some proper pics if i can find my camera. Done the sound generator mod before taking the car out last night, absolutely roars when you floor it.

The colour is Sterling Gray, not Silver Gray.

Looks fantastic, congratulations.
You mentioned you had some mods in mind when you bought it; what are you planning?
