High beam stalk not working

I have Xenon AHL preLCI e90 lights. When I pull back towards me the beams come on and stay on for as long as I hold it back. When I push the stalk forward to lock the high beams on, it will stay on for a few moments, flicker, then turn off. Is this is a known problem, something with the switch, or should I simply try bulbs? Both bulbs are either on or off at the same time, so I doubt it is bulbs.

Are your xenons on, or are you flashing the halogens?? In other words are your headlights on?

If your xenons are already fired up, the issue is in the projector shutter, or electrical issue with the stalk itself (which I doubt). If you are flashing the halogens, well it could be a bulb or electrical issue. Hard to say for sure without a better description.

Are all of your bulbs (Including AE) OEM?

With the Xenons on, when I pull back on the stalk, as if to flash, both lights come on. They remain on until I let go of the stalk. So I believe the bulbs are good. When I push the stalk forward as if to "lock" the high-beams on, as if I were cruising down a dark road and nobody was around, the high beams will come on for a few seconds, flicker, and go off. All bulbs and housings are OEM.

Hmm, thanks for giving more info. It sounds to me like an issue that the dealer may need to check out. There may be an issue with your projector flapper.

not a call out, just wanted to mention that the stalks are actually optical. they use light and a sensor to detect position.

Yea, not too sure exactly how that system works. OP, if there is anyone to listen to, it's this guy!

I took it to an indy shop. They called me 3 days later, "could not replicate problem." Dude swore up and down my headlights worked. I get there and he shows me that they work. I asked him if he drove the car at all. He said no. Even though I had told him they cut out when driving, the car was not driven at all. So I drove it around the block and sure enough the xenon high beams no longer worked. Then the tech pulled back on the halogen flashers and was like "hmm, seems they work this way." What a DA. I didn't want to leave my car there, as they seemed incompetent, so I told them I wanted it back. Then the SA had the nerve to try and charge me $196 diagnostic fee. I took my keys and didn't pay. What a joke. So, any ideas what it is? Maybe the adaptive module on one side has failed? But then why do neither work?

Let me know what you found. I took it to the dealer, and I may have to replace the entire unit.

This just happened to me last night, 2008 335i. Flash high beams ok but pushing the stalk forward does not. Let me know if you determined a solution to this problem.
