Ok, against my better judgement the car has been dropped off at Sytners Maidenhead - fair play to them I did get a lift back into work. Should get an update as to my already known problem by midday.

OK, as promised here is an update as to the issues and customer service experienced today:

The car needs:

Steering Column replaced 557.53
Boost Pressure pipe 255.86
Breather Pipe 127.69
Costs above are plus VAT

Next stage is to issue a good will claim to BMW GB which Sytners will do on my behalf, should find out the outcome in 48 hours. Bearing in mind my car is out of warranty but has only done 24k miles so really shouldnt be having the issues above - albeit these are common and well known on E9x cars.

I did NOT get charged for the diagnostics check which is normally 90 as they feel this could be claimed as well. So I must admit Sytners have looked after me today but the real crux of the issue ie the good will claim will be known in 2 days - I will update again at that point.

So in spite of what I has happened to me recently with Sytners, credit where credit is due they have done well today and looked after me.

Anneka, if you had anything to do with today - much thanks !!

I'm thinking your goodwill claim will be honoured and the smell of roses will be everywhere.

I've been leaving this in Paul's capable hands and I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that everything is covered.

On a separate note I did enquire about your wife's car to see where we'd gone wrong. Maidenhead has provided an email from Daniel Ellis @ Listers, in which Listers state they do not wish to go ahead with our discounted dealer-to-dealer quote for the repair and decide to "pull the vehicle back" to them. (They had carried out the initial repair.)
I hope that this information provides some clarification regarding our position in the situation.

As I said I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for a positive outcome for you. Please be sure to bring in the service history or our hands will be tied with regards to the goodwill request.

Please let me know if you need any assistance.

Anneka

That's shocking for a 3 year prestige car with 24k miles on the clock

It's not an ideal situation I grant you but it's all about getting it sorted now - the issues are nothing insurmountable nor uncommon on these cars, it will be very dissapointing if I get lumbered with the full charge mind !!

I had both the boost pressure/breather pipes replaced under the new car warranty one mth before it's expiry. (very common fault)
Boost pressure pipe was subsequently replaced 3 mths (out of warranty) later when the previous replacement failed.
This was done as a 'Goodwill' gesture despite BMW's stance that previous repairs done under the new car warranty have no 'warranty' beyond the 3yr period, bizarre!

Steering column fault is widely known about as you know,I'd expect a substantial gesture from BMW given the car has only covered 24k.

How many mths are you outside of the 3yr warranty period? (apologies if it's been mentioned before)

Over a year bud, but like you say both issues are well known faults and really shouldnt happen to a car that has only covered 24k.

Nothing but good things to say about Listers TBH - they just aint local to me.

As you can see from this thread been having a few hiccups with Sytners but they have a chance to redeem themselves. My wife and I have two high end E9x cars and tbh I want to be able to have confidence in and use my local dealer, hopefully (with Anneka's help) they will come through for me.

Ok, well Sytner have come back to me and have offered a 'good will' gesture which equates to 50% off parts and labour.

So pleased with the outcome and it seems that Sytners have redeemed themselves in my eyes. Thanks to all that have responded and thanks to Anneka who no doubt helped behind the scene.

Car is booked in for Thursday !

Frankly I don't think that is good enough for a known issue on such a low mileage car.

I would contrast that with my experience at VW when my wife's Touran had a failure of the ABS pump outside of warranty. Their goodwill gesture was 100% of parts and 50% of labour and that is what I would expect BMW to offer as a minimum.

Not very impressed with BMW on this one.
