Question removing wax layer/ spoiler prep

Hi, about to install that 59 usd m3 spoiler. Few questions before I start.
  1. Car was waxed couple of weeks ago. What product will help me remove it from the trunk?
  2. Is heavy duty tape ok to use, or it must be some double sided automotive special?
  3. Regardless which tape I use, is it easy to take it off if needed?
  4. what about an adhesive solution that came with spoiler, is that a better way to bond?
Appreciate your help!

  1. I use regular rubbing alcohol to remove the wax - will not harm the paint
  2. Use the gray (with red liner) 3M HD double-sided emblem tape. You can use the 3M Adhesive Promoter for xtra security if you wish, but I never have. I used 3M tape for my aero front spoiler/rear decklid spoiler/roof spoiler and they have been trouble free for years.
  3. Tape will bond well and you should never have problem with item coming off-if you ever need to remove, simply use lengths of dentil floss, get it started at an end between tape and car, using a 'sawing' motion-pull the floss across the length of the tape. It will 'cut' the tape off the car and not damage the paint in any way. Aftwards use Goo-Gone to remove any sticky residue.
  4. Best actual adhesive to use is Beta-Link. It will adhere more permanently then the tape, but you risk damaging the paint if you ever want to remove so it's more of a 'permanent' solution. I would definitely just use the tape - especially if it's on an item such as front spoiler that may need to be removed for a repaint in the future...
