Mr5 Intake Question

I've come to the conclusion that I want to do a Mr5 Intake but on my car there is bar that cuts right across the area where the tube would be going and leaves no room for it that I can see. I'm not talking about the thing you cut out under the power steering reservior holder-bracket. You can see what i'm talking about in the photos (I put the 4 blinding and glowing line stickers on the bar to highlight it). This is kind of a brace of sorts connecting the frame to the fender and I don't think I would want to remove it since it looks like it's kind of a structural piece. Do some cars maybe not have this? I have an '07 E92 coupe. Did anybody with the intake just take out the bar to make room for the tube? Also I thought I saw somewhere that somebody had what looked like maybe a one way valve in the middle of the tube (I can't find it now). I was thinking about doing this too-anybody know what i'm talking about and where I can get one?

I think e92 have this brace...I ran across this problem installing my STETT CAI...you have to remove it or don't go CAI. After really bad fitment and poor instructions from STETT I decided I'll just rock the stock air box for now. For the time being and for the price I think I'm just going to go with PROcede DCI for my next intake upgrade.

That sucks-I want a CAI and i'm not takin out that bar. Anybody know if the Dinan CAI fits if you have the bar? If so, how does it get around it? I might have to look into that afe elite cai system but i'm not totally sold on it....

I'm fairly certain that any of the non-DIY CAI's require that this bar be taken out (Dinan, UR, STETT) at your own risk. If you search through most of the threads of forums members doing the Mr. 5 intake mod with e92's, they've removed it as well.

Only the e92's have them, not the e90 sedans. Why? Who knows. It may have something to do with the fenders on the e92 being plastic, it may not.

All I know is even if people tell you it's perfectly fine to remove it, they could be right while you're driving around town, but no one has actually tested the merits of this theory by going out and getting into a head-on collision once they've removed it. Thus, I refuse to remove mine and instead use 2.5" dia tubing for my Mr. 5 intake rather than 3", so that it can squeeze behind that frame brace without needing to be removed. That one workaround for you.

So a 2.5" hose will fit under the bar? If so, I think i'll go that route. Also, anybody using a one way valve in the hose and know where to get one? It may not be necessary but I'd like to be sure that air isn't being blown out the tube filter instead of being sucked in.....

I'm having a problem as well with that brace I want to put a AFE intake and this is stopping me. I'm think of getting it and having someone cut the shield to make it fit.
