E90 selling tips

Due to family expansion I will be selling my beloved E90 330i M sport very soon and will probably try to sell privately to see the best price. Having never sold a car privately I wondered if anyone has any advice?

I currently have the BMW performance black grille and a lovely milled steel weighted gear knob fitted. I imagine it's probably best to put it back to standard for selling?

The two front wheels have a couple of dings and one wheel is bubbling a little - worth having them restored before selling?

How do you avoid time wasters?

Cheers for any advice

I have sold a car privately either but the other thing I would be really careful about is bankers cheques as even then you can get some dodgy stolen ones and the banks just say tough luck

Good point this, I also have never sold a car of any value privately.

What is the best way of making sure your not ripped off? At a guess it would be making sure the money has cleared in the bank before letting the car go?

How do you guarantee the buyer your not going to do a runner with their money? Obviously you don't want to put them off.

Sorry about all the Qs

I bought my car 6 weeks or so ago and payed cash,

Be very careful to be fair i would only take cash or bankers draft but go to the bank with them and bank it, Or a bank transfer,

I guess the bankers draft would be the way forward. Although we would need to meet during banking hours on a weekday or on a Saturday when the banks are open

Actually Shane your'e right - bank transfer is the better way

for selling i find autotrader worth while. if you can sell the car standard most people prefer that ive always found

i used to have a Honda civic type r tried to sell with a few mod full exhaust system . few other bits got nothing put back to standard and sold it.

I've privately sold a few cars in my time and found autotrader to be the best based on the search procedure and number of viewers. Unfortunately, time wasters are part and parcel of the selling process so patience is a virtue.

If the rest of the car is in near perfect condition I wouldn't worry too much about the dings or bubbles unless they're really visible. Give the car a good wash before any view and you should be fine.

As for payment, bank transfer is probably the best.

I have tried PH, Autotrader, Ebay and gumtree.
Both of my previous cars were sold by fleabay (fixed listing).

My cars has been advertised on ebay, autotrader and gumtree.
Ebay got more public and all 3 has been sold through them.
take as many pictures as you can and detail every aspect.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of using ebay to sell a car but I guess it could work.

Do people still price high and expect some haggle room? I'm hopeful that I can see 11,500 for the car so might advertise for 12k and see what happens
