Buy the Quaife diff from HP and have it installed. My car is at Edge Motorworks right now having it installed :rocks:. Harold is right on about the seals, make sure to get them as well prior to the install.

Well, I guess that changes thing a bit. So much for the March and later production with the welded diff.

Does your door tag say 02/2007?

Mine says 01/2007 and I'm wondering if its welded or not... any way to tell by looking?

And with that someone should make a DIY for draining the fluid and taking the cover off and checking if it's welded.

Well, not sure how much a 540i stock diff would be off a car at a junkyard..but that may be your best bet...get that...install the quaife in it...and replace the whole thing with your total rear diff assembly. I am guessing $1695 for the diff (if you can get Autotech to get some...they are on intergalactic backorder)...$300-500 for the diff...and then about $1000 for the labor to build the new one..and take out your old one.

ouch.....

I knew we had a diff from a 5 series but how sure are you that its a 540? And what model 540?...Exx? Current or old? Don't mean to doubt you , just doing some homework.

And that 1695 i'm assuming you mean the quaife.

i am finding a diff route....i think if HP just pushed these more and gave out better info on the quaife they would be able to buy the 30 units for birds and sell them cheaper... still a gamble i bet it would cost about 60k or so but well worth it!!!!! seems more and more people are getting there heads out of there asses and realize they need an lsd if getting a procede v2 or another powerful tune!!!! but damn hp's prices are nuts compared to others i have seen esp been quoted on here....turner is expensive too!!!

Are you saying $1695 for a Quaife shipped with in the 48 States is too expensive?

Most people are talk and take no action. I can't get 10 people to commit on the Quaife.
