![]() Steering lock failure. Yellow means it didn't engage and might be a transient fault, red is a total failure requiring a new steering column and was a common fault on cars 2005 - 2007.

Yes, if it's the column failure. When you do get the chance, try the search because a lot of people have had success in getting a goodwill gesture as it was such a common fault. Might be difficult on a six year-old car though and probably impossible without full BMW history. Good luck.

In that case I think you've got a decent shout. Worth notoing also is that I had the yellow light a few times on my '08 e92 but never developed to anything worse.

Funnily enough I am currently going through exactly the same thing right now on a car thats done 24k. Although I have the red light on my dash but never had an issues starting the car etc. Check my Sytner / BMW GB thread in UK forum. It requires a new steering column.

This happened on mine but it was red. Took it to BMW, got ridiculous quotes for a new column. Told them I would take it elsewhere and when I went to pick it up the light had gone and has never come back.

I had this warning light appear a couple of days ago and didn't know what it was for, now I'm worried
. I've only had the car just over a couple of weeks, would it be covered by the warranty I've got for 6 months???? |

I had the same issue with my 2007 325dse.
it was under warranty at the time. As far as I know, the steering column was not replaced, just re-coding sorted it. It was only in for a day and had a service at the same time. I doubt they could change a steering column and do a service in that time. Anyway, best of luck.
