Radar Detector

Any opinion on the best place to mount a radar detector, corner of window, middle, top, bottom?

somewhere that you can press the buttons on it with ease, mine is left 3/4 from right corner of windshield, middle a little halfway above the middle of the windshield, if that makes sense which it probably dosent lol

I always heard the lower the better. Mine is placed right on the bottom in the middle of the windshield. I guess because cops shoot their radar guns at your license plate so it would be easier to pick it up..but idk haha

Mine is to the right of my rear view mirror. I don't get why people mount them so low? The intended purpose is to pick up radar/laser from the front & back of the car. It won't pick up anything from behind sitting on or just above the dash.

I have a V1 mounted just above my rear view mirror. I had it at the same height in my previous Audi.

Mounted mine from the rear view mirror. It actually sits mounted under the mirror. Then I ran the wire around the head liner and down to the fuse box and hard wired it to a empty fuse slot.

Can you show a pic of it mounted to the rearview mirror.

Thanks.

My V1 is in the space between the head liner and the rear view mirror, on the left side. Perfect fit - I also move down the head liner slightly at night to block its lights from people behind.

My BEL 995 is mounted just to the left of the rearview mirror and just low enough where the laser lens is below the tint band. I have it wired in to the overhead console power supply wiring. It's low enough for access to the buttons on top and is easily viewable.

Regarding where "cops" aim their radar - they don't have a specific location because they don't need one with radar, as it will reflect off most any surface on your car. Laser, or LIDAR, is another case, and most of the time it is aimed at the front grille or lower, as the slant in your windshield will reflect the beam away from the LIDAR's receiver. So, for radar, higher is better; for laser, lower is better - but in the case of laser, the best you can hope for is to be behind someone when the officer triggers the beam, as it's "instant-on" and they often wait until you're well within the instant-return distance. If you have nobody in front of you and you get a laser indication (and you're not near an airport's ALS system), you're toast.

Mine is mounted below the rear view mirror. Looks good, doesn't interfere with my visibility, and the reception is great.

Bracket looks great and very nicely placed. I am curious whether you take it out of the bracket and throw it in the glove box every time you get out of the car? If so, is it cumbersome to do so?

Thanks!

Nope. I leave it on 24/7. But if I wanted to it would take 2 secs to slide it out of the valentine bracket. But never take it down...

First and foremost, does the detector have front and rear facing antennae/sensors (a la V1)? If yes, then it needs to be somewhere on the window where the back of the detector is in direct line of sight of the rear window. If no, then just anywhere on the windshield that is most convenient for you to reach it. My V1 is placed directly to the left of my rear view mirror. One of my big pet peeves is having the detector blocking part of the windshield, so that is an ideal location for it. I don't have to look at it, it does not hinder any part of the road from my view, and I can see it in my upper peripheral if it lights up. PLUS I have a tint strip and the V1 sits barely below that. VERY discrete, especially if you are in a state where detectors are prohibited.

Is it a direct fit as far as the corvette one not needing any modifying.

All you need to do is bend angle of the bracket that holds the Valentine mount. Just a little so it makes your V1 sit level. Takes two seconds to do with your hands.

It sounds like higher up on the window is better

It's perfect where I have it. I have had it mounted on the mirror like that on the last 5-7 vehicles for 10 years. Works amazing there. Do what you want though.

BTW, mine is just to the left of the RVM, pretty much where any windshield mounted RD should go.
