Vibration when breaking from 50mph and above.

Okay so I get large vibration when I break from around 50mph and above, and its very noticeable, not so much when I got the car new. so I decided to take it to the dealer. And they sent a mechanic with me reproduce the problem, and even he said, it only vibrated when the breaks were applied. So they went and check it out. Later the service guy comes in, tells me its not the breaks its my alignment and one of my tires have uneven wear so they recommend all 4 tires be replaced $2500 plus I get a re alignment $250 which = $2750. I feel like they are ripping me off because I only feel vibration when breaking. I would under stand if I felt vibration constantly or after I hit a certain speed but only when I break... I feel like it has to be the breaks being warped or something. Any advice?

The usual cause for vibration when braking is a warped front brake rotor.

If your tires do need replacing, I'd buy from a good local tire shop or Tirerack.com, but not from a BMW dealer.

Well, I had the same exact issues.

I replaced front brakes. It didnt' help.

I had uneven wear on front front tyre as it was a tyre that was replaced earlier with a used spare.

Once car was on different set of rims (i.e. winter) car had no problem braking.

My conclusion - uneven tyre wear was the reason, although I did go down the route of replacing front brakes only to realise it wasn't the cure.

if it only happens when you brake, I would think it's your rotors. If there was something wrong with tires like out of balance, you would notice it when just coasting at 50mph.

I want to say that it's your brake rotors as well. Does it vibrate only as you're on the brakes or even when you're off the gas and slowing down?

Your rotors. They warped. Same thing happened to me. Upgraded to slotted ebay rotors with Ragid red from bavauto stops a lot better.
