Retrofitting 335xi cluster in 328i

2008 335xi automatic cluster.

I'd like to retrofit it my wife's
2009 328iT 6mt.

(looking to replace the pointless instantaneous MPG gauge with oil temp)

Looking to avoid getting a tamper dot, screwed up odometer reading, etc.

Possible? Easy? What's involved?

It's easy.

The basic principle is:

1. First zero mileage if replacement KOMBI has higher mileage than your car. If you don't do this, as soon as you change vin and the replacement KOMBI is higher mileage - the higher mileage will be written to the car!!!!!!!

This is done by R270 as stated further down but depending on chip version you may have to desolder it. Newer chips mileage are protected and can't be erased whilst soldered to the board.

If replacement KOMBI mileage is less than your car, you can skip this as mileage always changes to highest value in this case your existing mileage stored in CAS module.

2. Erase short VIN to FF bytes in KOMBI eeprom. You'll need an R270 programmer and this can be done without touching a soldering iron via an SOP 8pin TESTCLIP which can program the eeprom whilst it's still soldered to the board.

3. Install cluster in car.

4. Write YOUR vin to KOMBI with winkfp / tool32 / or even NCSexpert will do this when coding it to default.

If that sounds too complicated (it was for me) I know someone that can do it for a good price. I found a good deal on a modified 335i cluster I ended up having all the interior LEDs changed out to match.

Yep, Dan down in TX can do wonders with clusters and LEDs. I can also provide his info.
