Check engine light?

The light popped up on my dash sometime during a 20min drive. I checked it when I parked and said I needed to add 1qt. of oil. After about an hour I got back in the car and started it and the light was gone... I checked vehicle status again and "all systems ok"... Very strange.
I tried to find the right oil for this thing at a couple nearby auto parts stores and couldn't find any that were BMW LL-04 approved.

Thoughts?

Here in Atlanta, the LL04 oil are on the shelf at NAPA (MolyLube, Valvoline) and PepBoys (Mobil1). I keep at least 1 liter at home just in case I need to top the oil.

Thanks I'll check around tomorrow. I stopped at a auto zone and an advanced auto parts store and neither had what I need.

Of course dealer will have the correct oil. In many cases is the least expensive source.
