Good point! I just now got back to a computer.

The build quality of the exhaust is great. Came wrapped up with all the needed instructions and brackets. Also, it came with a AA license plate. I'll install that sometime tomorrow.

The install is pretty simple w/ the right tools. I attempted it originally with a hacksaw, but you'd have to be Lou Farrigno to saw through the metal. A reciprocating saw works perfectly.

When you start the engine, it has a deep hum to it. Not too loud, but more reminiscent of a 135i or 128i.

On the road it has a nice tone when you get on the gas. Has a grumble reminiscent of a M3, but not fully like the V8. I don't know the exact word for it.

So far, I'm liking it a lot. The only potential downside is a little bit of drone when coasting at 2K. However, I may be wrong on that. I'm a bit tired from interviewing, and from installing the exhaust so up is down and vice versa. I'll definitely confirm all of that tomorrow once the Atlanta traffic dies down.

How do I take a good audio video w/ a mobile phone? Volume is coming a bit low when I listen to it.

Here are a couple shots from just a few hours ago. This is an install on an N51. As you can see it involved a little more than just cut and clamp in this case. N51 exhuast is a little different than your standard N52. The diameter is a little larger, so the AA pipe had to be cut near the section that would normally be clamped and it was welded onto the OEM pipe.

Here's a quick video showing idle and reving. I'm guessing it's a little quieter than your standard N52 as the N51 has a second set of cats. All in all, the actual sound is a little louder, deeper, and more mellow than what you'll hear. This was done with my phone, so not the best microphone.

Below 2,000 rpm it's really quiet. I need to drive it some more, but it sounds like there's a bit of drone around 2k when you're on the gas. Once you hit 3k it's gone. Like I said though, I need to drive it some more.

Couple of additional notes. The install was done by Green Motorsport in Springfield, VA. They did a great job sweating the details after I through them a curve ball with the N51 exhaust!

They're an AA distributor too. They specialize in Porsche, but if you're in Northern VA, it's worth giving them a call.

Would it be louder on n51 or n52?

Here's another on startup. Not much to see, but you should be able to hear the exhaust pretty well. I'm still trying to get a good a/v of it in motion.

The N51 has a second set of cats before the resonator that the N52 doesn't have. If anything, they'd help muffle the sound. It's by no means quiet though. The video above this post is a good example of the idle tone.

The stock exhaust I had was near silent. The engine noise would drown it out.

[EDIT] I was mistaken about this. See my post further down for more details. After seeing where the differences are, I don't know that one would be louder than the other. They're probably the same as far as noise goes.

All of the cat setups on the n51/n52 are the same. Primary in the headers and secondary shortly after.

I guess I need to see a side by side comparison. The Bentley manual states that the N51 has a near engine catalyst with additional underbody catalyst.

If you're in the US, which we are, all the N52 variants have primary and secondary cats.

I'll give it a shot, but my recording equipment (i.e. smart phone) could be better. It doesn't seem bad, but is definitely louder in that area. As soon as you let off the gas a bit it goes away, so it's not constant.
