Do you have a 328 or 330? Is your exhaust welded or clamped? Did your exhaust ever drone like mine? (listen to my audio files posted on previous page)

lucky,

-328i coupe
-welded
-yes

edit: i actually bought it off a dude with an 06 330i w/ only a few hundred miles on it. After I installed it, i immediately texted him saying "Now i know why you sold this thing" lol

let it break in. I remember my aa gen 3 was pretty rude when i first installed it on my e36 m3 but mellowed out a lot. That was one of the best sounding bmw's ive ever heard im proud that I was the owner of it.

AA Signature Exhaust quick review

The installation instructions are straight forward and easy. I did not use a sawzall or anything fancy. I measured twice and cut once with a hack saw.

After the first couple tanks of gas I really questioned if I wanted to keep AA signature exhaust. It is REALLY boomy between 2000-2500 and generally it was loud and raspy when new. I felt like one of those people from a Ken Block commercial all I needed was a flat ball cap and some baggy pants. Never mind that Mr. Block is actually older than me (I’m 42). I strongly considered taking it off and replacing it with something else. But, with age also comes a little more patience.

After about 4 or 5 tanks of fuel (30-40 days) the exhaust has toned down dramatically in my opinion. My wife who was the harshest critic of my decision agrees and actually likes it now! There is still some boomieness between 2000-2500, it comes and goes quickly and is easily manageable. Now I find myself lowering the windows on nice days and turning down the volume on the radio just to hear the burble and blap from the rear. The N52 being the last of many great naturally aspirated straight six engines from BMW is well complemented by this exhaust. My morning commute takes me right past the marketing and sales center for Mercedes Benz. So, now I am always sure, when slowing for a light to let out a hefty heel toe to show Mercedes that a manual transmission can indeed be great fun and they should offer more in the US.

Overall, would I recommend this product? Yes I certainly would! The quality of construction is first rate too. But, be advised there is some drone/boominess between 2000-2500rpm it comes and goes very quickly and is a very small price to pay for a modest performance increase and certainly a much improved driving experience. Thanks AA for building a great product.

that boominess around 2-2.5k rpm will mellow out. Honestly, I drive with my windows down all the time to listen to it.

The tone really matures.

I want this, need to hear it in person, maybe someone will take me for a ride, drone keeping me on the fence, maybe needs a tuned mass damper.

I finally decided to cut my resonator off. Quick video via iPhone I'll make a better one if requested.

that sounds a lot deeper than just muffler alone, did you notice that in real life too?

Yes it is a whole lot deeper and a lot louder. Drone wise I spotted no difference.

I saw this earlier on this thread... but can our N52s even handle any type of supercharger kit? Even if Active Autowerke produces one, reliability may be a huge issue, right? I'm not sure though. That sounded interesting so I just thought I would bring it up.

It can be done but, to do it right is going to cost $$. To make 40-80 whp max its not worth it.

Well I got mine (Active Autowerke BMW E9x 328i Signature Exhaust N52, I got it when it was going for $499) put on last Saturday (10/26/13) & now I'm going back this Saturday (11/2/13) to get this thing taking OFF & get the OEM put back on. My goodness, inside the car sounds like I'm in a 1978 Ford driving up hill. Just gotta count my loss & move on. I may keep the tips tho & let shop keep the rest.

Have it adjusted before you remove it. It may be loose or touching

I figured out the drone issue... You're all old. If you don't want to hear the exhaust... why did you buy an a muffler delete...

Sorry but IMO you guys sound dumb.

I loved my AA exhaust since day 1, still do. Never had "drone", whatever that means.

We did a 328xi the other day without welding.

Please measure your pipe diameter 3 inches from the muffler to be sure it does not need to be welded.
