Hello, if I might ask, where does that map come from? I'm searching for well updated maps of the Autobahn. I would be so very thankful for an answer.

The Baden-Württemberg map came from Auto Motor und Sport's site. I thought it might help some guy out here plan their ED.

A lot of the Autobahns are under construction this time of year(!)... and also Germany's neighbors(Holland and Denmark) have summer vacation - so they are all out "parking it" in the left lane of the autobahns!

You can see "live" traffic jams (called Stau's) here...

http://www.tomtom.com/livetraffic/

IF you are just looking for "free" no speed limit autobahns... most are in Bayern where I live.

Here is another Autobahn map. I found it on the e90 forum last year. Its a good map of speed limits (Tempo limits).

Thank you, that stau map seems regularly updated.

Actually it's mostly speed limits I am interested in. That second map is made by Patrick Scholl from autobahnatlas-online.de and it's a great map, very detailed, although he seems to be updating the Fahrstreifen and Anschlussstellen map quite often but not so much the speed limit map.

There must be some sort of federal map over speed limits on the Autobahn due to the fact that all new speed limits must be reported right? Otherwise it wouldn't be formal. I was wondering what authority would handle these issues, KBA? Maybe they are just into vehicle statistics and registration.

Anyhow, was BaWü the only state that Auto Motor und Sport had a speed limit map over?

Thanks again

Yeah man sorry about that on behalf of my fellow countrymen, they do that at home as well. You won't find me parking it anywhere on the autobahn though

And also they are the most beautiful. Personally I favor the trip from Munich down to Garmisch-Partenkirchen

If you´re looking for an autobahn where u can really floor it, try it somewhere in east germany. The east tends to have the newer, better roads and there are not so many construction sites. I would recommend the A9 between Leipzig and Berlin oder the A38 between Göttingen and Leipzig. There are 5km arrow straight parts... enough, to try out the 155mph

WHAT!?!?!? I will tell you it can be VERY dangerous driving fast in Eastern Germany. Yes, they have brand new everything! (cars, roads, buildings, infrastructur.. ect..) But they still drive like they are driving some POS trabant! Really. Those Eastern drivers WILL cut you off without any warning. Yes, you can drive fast there... but its the other cars/drivers you HAVE to be aware of.

Kind of like when driving in Western Germany... when you come upon a three letter license plated car... you know... one letter is for BIG cities, two letters for meduim cities.. and the three letter tags are for the small areas/towns. Those three letter tag drivers never drive on the autobahn and you really need to watch out for them!

The other thing about driving in the former DDR is that Polizei there like to change the speed limits quite a lot on the autobahn. For no real reason, and that is where they set up a blitzer radarkontrolle (photo radar). Yes, you now will get any tickets mailed back to the states! Or worse.. they will stop you down the road and you pay RIGHT there and then!

There are parts of the A9 from Bayreuth to Hof that are nice. And then from Leipzig on up. But still... not somewhere where you can really go all out. For that I would say the A9 between Nurnberg and Ingolstadt. Or on the A6 from Nurnberg to Heilbron. But its getting to the point that traffic and "holiday travelers (like now that the NL and DK people have the next three weeks off!) are all sitting in the left lane) makes it really hard to drive really fast. But really fast I mean over 255 kph. You can drive over 200 kph on most autobahns, but really fast driving takes some work. I guess I'm spoiled.

Generally I like the A9 going through Germany much better than A1/A7, which I do several times a year. Last Easter I drove home from St. Wolfgang in Austria (via Salzburg and Munich) to the ferry at Rostock. Total driving time 5h 08 min for 964 km trip. We drove off Sunday morning and there was NO traffic until we came close to Berlin since Monday was also a national holiday. That's an average speed of 187 km/h. Mostly I find it hard to reach an average speed of much more than 120-130 km/h this time of the year, and quite often it will even be lower than that in the summer time.

Personally though I rather prefer to accelerate and brake a bit every once in a while, so I much prefer to go to Nurburgring for fun, but the drive there is murder this time of the year

But I like the idea of the maps, as I would like to do some testing with my RB turbos in a few weeks when I go on 3 weeks holiday. I could already reach 7000 rpm in 6th gear before the upgrade (=302.8 km/h on the Vbox), but I would like to test some 200-300 km/h times soon, and that requires quite a bit of free space.

If you say so...

I think arguing about that is pointless.

Three letter tag drivers have never been to an autobahn, which meens they only do 100kph max... Wtf?! Take a look at my number. First time i´ve experienced 300kph was in a car with such a number AND on the A14. How did that work?

I agree on your opinion on the A9. But the A6 between Heilbronn and Nürnberg? Unless you are driving at night, its almost impossible to reach the 200kph on a two lane autobahn with lots of trucks on it. I´ve been studying in Karlsruhe for three years, i know that road.

Everything you said about useless drivers, annoying police and pointless Blitzers is true. But are you really saying these things only occur in East-Germany? Come on... It CAN be dangerous everywhere in good old germany.

There is also a nice section between Ulm and Munich on A8. It's closer to Munich, but in my opinion it's one of the best "no limit" zones in Bavaria. Brand new roads and once they finish the rest of the construction between Ulm and Munich, it will be even better. I love the Autobahn.....just love it! And i must say that German drivers are the best drivers in the world. I live in the states and let's just say signals on cars are just for looks.

I love turkish and italian drivers. All they need is a horn. No indicators, road signs, lights or whatever. Just a horn and they cope with that.
