DAB radio - no signal - any tips?
Not sure if the DAB in my e90 is gubbed, but since buying the car a couple of weeks ago I've been unable to get it to work: despite trying it in different geographical areas it always displays "no signal". I've spoken to the previous owner who unfortunately never used it (rarely listened to radio at all). I've searched on here unsuccessfully plus I have actually RTFM...
Car is a 2007/57 330i and has DAB listed on the spec sheet, has the option to select on the iDrive, and has (what I believe to be) the box under the boot floor. Any suggestions? Is it just a shite signal where I live (central Scotland between Glasgow/Edinburgh so shouldn't really be the case, plus I get good DAB signal on the system in my house). Or is there something else I need to investigate? Cheers a11y |

I had the same problem when I bought mine (from Edinburgh funny enough!)
I suceeded by scanning for new stations, can't remember exactly how, but it takes a while, so be patient. It will work, but it is slow to load up the station names. Follow the instructions in the manual if you come unstuck. |

Had another bash at it on my way home from work: some success! Receiving lots of BBC digital channels but not picking anything else up. But it's a start. Think I need to RTFM again and have a bit more patience as I suspect I'm just not giving it enough time.

I then pick from these for my presets,so that I have absolute 80's,90's BBC6,local radio etc on one preset screen. It does take time and does get a little frustrating, but easy when you get your head around it! |

Absolute 80's FTW!
+1 you can select from different station 'groups' I.e. BBC, other national, local etc. The groups are called Ensembles in DAB speak. I select 'all' then you can scroll thru the whole lot. Loads.

Same issues down here in Cornwall with our Mini Coupe. We eventually managed to find the stations we listen to, but the signal is so sporadic down here that you are as well sticking with FM. It's a shame as sound quality when it is working is far superior. I guess as the infrastructure improves it may get better.
One shortcoming of the system in the car is that if it loses signal in DAB, it doesn't automatically revert to FM. |

The BMW system does, you can tick a box to revert to FM if DAB is lost (if the channel you are on has an FM one too)

I was trying to do it all without the aid of the manual in front of me yesterday, but it was great having more choice on the radio this morning.
Still pissed off mine won't play MP3 discs ![]() |

At first I had no signal and BMW 'updated' it... it then worked for a while. Now? I used to be able to get all the stations now I only get a select few. Piss take!
