2007 E93 Top Failure

as stated, 2007 E93 335CiC, top won't go down smoothly anymore. Started last week with being touchy to initiate opening the top, now, IF I can get it to open it stops every few inches, and I have to tap close, then hold open again. It closes without issue.

Even when it WILL open I have to give it a push to get started to pop it loose from the A-pillar.

Is it the switch, or a sensor, series of sensors, or hydraulics?

Is it getting caught on the A-pillar?

My top needed some adjusting as it had trouble coming out of the trunk. My dealer took care of it in less than 30 mins.

it gets caught on the A-pillar, but even after I give it a little help it still pauses every few inches, and the red roof icon pops up on the dash. It's as if a sensor has failed or something. Usually, the switch won't even engage, light up, or give any indication that I'm trying to open the roof.

I started having problems similar to that. It wouldn't open all the way, just unlock. When I could get it open, it wouldn't close. The trunk would raise, but the roof panels wouldn't come out. I had an extended warranty cover replacement of the hydraulic unit. $1800 charge, $50 deductable

My roof was struggling to open a couple months ago too. And when it finally did open, it popped out really fast. All I did was spray WD40 on the hinges and it's been smooth as butter ever since. I happened to find the solution on m3post

As for the motor stopping halfway when it already started opening, that I have no idea.

Actually don't who the vendor is. I purchased it through my dealer Crevier BMW at initial purchase. It was not the extended warranty through BMW however.

I would like to know this as well. Once my BMW warranty is up, I'd love to keep this car but if I cannot find an extended warranty that covers the top, I'll likely part with it. It's way cool in design so far but if it dies after 50,000 miles I don't to go broke keeping it going.

Any info, please share!
