2007 335i DRL halos

Hey,

I just bought a 2007 335i and it seems that only one of the halos works for either side when the DRL's are on. Does anyone know how i can make both of them work. I noticed the headlights are different from other 335i's. the corner light is white and does not have the yellow triangle light. are these M3 headlights? I am its third owner and I am not sure what has been changed or if its factory.

Is this a coupe or sedan? If coupe, then:

1) previous owner probably swapped out the stock halogen H8 bulb for a poor aftermarket one that does not provide even lighting between both halos

2) by corner light, do you mean the turn signal? If so, then the previous owner probably swapped out the stock PY24W bulb for an aftermarket LED one

3) By yellow triangle light, do you mean the LED at the very tip of the headlight? Previous owner probably removed that LED (somehow) or removed the wiring for it.. you might have to resolder it back.. not sure here.

My car is a coupe... I have yet to pick it up but i am trying to figure this light thing before I import into Canada....

This is the style of headlamp that I have....with only the inner halo working.

The corner light is the signal light...in this picture its clear but i have see other cars that have the yellow band that goes around the bottom to the back corner and then comes up the top part of the headlamp...kind of like a big "V"...hope that makes sense.

Would you reccommend that I buy some good H8 bulbs or upgrade them?

I see what you mean now. The picture you have on the right is a sedan, which has the amber as part of the headlight design. The coupe is completely different, there isn't that amber triangle!

It is normal for the coupe to look like that:

As for the DRL, what color currently is the inner halo? If it's yellow, then it's probably stock already and from different angles it would appear that the outer halo isn't lit.

OP, look up images of 2007 coupes and sedans and notice the different headlights. Or just look at the top left of your screen and I believe you'll see both the sedan and coupe lights (I'm on mobile, so I'm describing by memory.)

the outer halo on the coupes isnt very well lit at some angles, especially if the previous owner put in a cheap aftermarket bulb.

check it when its darker out and you should see both rings lit. it might also help if you get straight in front of the car and crouch down so you are eye level with the headlights.

The car is in Chicago waiting for me to pick it up after i finish i shift at work...i took a picture of the lights when i went to look at it last month. I am trying to find a cable so i can up load it from my phone for you guys to look at. It seems that the light is not yellowish but white and its pretty clear that only the inside halo is lit up. maybe at night, the outter halo will show better but from what i can see, only one is working...

I had a similar problem where the halo lights looked quite dim. I brought it to the dealer and they replaced all four.

Well first of all, those are aftermarket angel eyes. You most likely have LEDs installed, based on the color.

It looks like the problem you are having is due to a misaligned LED carrier assembly. Each headlight uses just one "bulb" to light both angel eyes. It does this using light pipes. If you look up a tutorial on how to replace the angel eye bulbs, you will see what I mean.

Now, if you have LEDs, which it looks like you do, chances are the LED assembly for each headlight has 2 LEDs on it. Each LED is designed to shine directly into each light pipe, which carries light to each angel eye ring. If the LED carrier is not installed correctly, ie. it is not rotated fully in its socket, the LEDs will not line up with the light pipes and you will get the affect that you are currently seeing.

I speak from experience because I had my angel eye LEDs improperly installed and this is exactly how it looked. I hope you find this helpful!

DRL 07 335i sedan conversion to 335i coupe

I've noticed that on my 07 335i sedan my DRL are quite different than the coupes version. I'd like have my DRL look like the coupe's version when on. Can anyone help me figure this one out?

Yes. Your DRL is the cornering bulb from the factory, not the AE's. You need to find someone who can code in your area to get your car reporgrammed, making the AE the DRL. I would also reccomend MTEC V3's as an LED upgrade for the AE's.

Thank you that's very helpful. Would you know how I would be able to look for someone who codes? Is this something that I can do myself?

I would say the best way to find out is by asking in your regional section of the forum to see if anyone local to you can code. You can do it yourself for sure, you just need a 100$ OBD2 coding cable and a little bit of research on how to excecute the commands. You can find the DIY on here as well
