OP.....on a brand new car, you are losing more money per day on depreciation than the hit you will take for additional miles.

If the car is older, than most of the depreciation has already occurred...so the diminished value of the additional kilometres is not as significant as you might think.

It's a car. A practical car that is fun to drive. But there is nothing exotic about an E9X. Drive it, maintain it, enjoy it!

We're going Off-Topic

To OP: Why buy a car you love and DON'T drive it...

I am sure that you will be fine... highway miles are easy miles. if you did 20 city a day or something, yea that will cause more wear and tear. highway? hardly none, unless you WOT all the time.

I commute my 20 miles a day to work and I HAVE to drive it on weekends because its just not enough! unless abused like crazy, these cars are made to last a quite a long time. remember, the problems are magnified and seems like there are more of it than it actually is on a forum like this. there are thousands of 335i's that are trouble free for every few that are bad.

First: These cars are meant to be driven. They are not show pieces.
Second: I use mine to commute, and go on long trips several times a year. Delivered 3/12/09, and I have 73k miles on it. Mostly highway. Garage kept, and looks and runs better than most cars with 20k miles on them.
Third: Clear Bra is essential for highway miles..

Drive about 1000 miles per month. Bought the car as a daily driver and it makes me happy to drive it everywhere I go... Especially with the top down!! :-) Have extended warranty to pay for maintenance thru April 2015... No worries til then...

Drive mine ~50 miles per day. Mostly highway miles. Do I "worry" about putting miles on a BMW that has 86,xxx miles... eh kinda. But I bought it to drive it as many others have posted. Sure is more of a blast to drive than my TSX that I traded in.

Enjoy life to the fullest!

I drive mine everywhere, why would anyone think twice about it in a regular 3 series?

Don't get me wrong, the commute is very enjoyable. Smooth and fun to drive. My 07 328i is now at 88,000 (55,000 miles). It's just after reading forums, maintenance cost, etc, kinda lowers your "Peace of Mind". More miles, more maintenance, more money.

That being said, I guess I shouldn't worry as it's mainly highway miles. It' is a BMW, and it is "The Ultimate Driving Machine". Not the "Ultimate garage machine".

How about extended warranty?

IMHO the best commuter car ever! Small, good mileage, good power and superb handling/brakes in an excellent combination. Not too expensive because it's used as well, and I lucked out and got a certified pre-owned so the car is super clean!

135 miles a day/5 days a week. I put 10,000 miles on my 335i in the first 2 months I've had it. 85% highway miles, 4 40+ mile mountain runs, and 1 track day. Just bought this one in May. 2007 that had 72,000 miles on it at purchase.

I drive my Bimmer everywhere. We have a Lexus SUV but I don't drive that unless I absolutely have to. Whenever we go somewhere, my wife knows exactly which car to get into. Plus, I think my 2 month old son prefers the BMW anyway.

I originally bought my 328i X for an 80 mile commute daily. As someone said highway miles are the easiest miles.

Very true, but on paper.

By keeping the miles down on a car, it will last longer. If you're keeping it 10+ years, imho it's good to keep the miles on the low side.

Depreciation on a Carrera 4S is about $56/day in year one. Do you really somehow offset that by driving it all over the place? You accelerate it. Keep in mind many 3 yo. cars will have 15k or less.

as a college student in the city, i use my car like 3 days a week. I've had my car for 4 months and have put 3k miles on it. At this rate, my car is gonna stay young for quite a while.

Currently at 42.3K miles

Yes I use it to commute, about 200 all freeway miles M-F. Weekends about 20 max. This is the only reason I enjoy going to work...
