Motor Being Pulled. What would you replace?

My car got wrecked pretty bad and they have to remove the engine to replace the front frame rails.

What would you recommend I change on the engine while its out and everything is accessible? Any hard to reach hoses?

So far on my list I have:
Water Pump / T-stat
Valve Cover Gasket
Rear turbo inlet gasket (tried when changing clutch and didn't seem to be 100% right.
Belt
Wastegates?

Someone posted the same thread about their engine getting pulled to have RB turbos installed & asked what they should do while the engine it out. There's a list on the RobBeck website that lists everything that should be done when upgrading your turbos, I'd say start with that

I've found a couple Turbo inlet threads but nothing seemed to come out of them.
Wish I could do RB turbos. If I found a set ready to roll it may be a stretch but I can't wait 2-3 months for them.

Depending on the condition of your turbos, I'd consider having them rebuilt as well.

Check the condition of the oil pan gasket. For shits an giggles I'd pull it anyway and check up on the rod bearings.

If its coming out with the transmission, may as well check the life left on the clutch.

My clutch slave cylinder was also binding. Rod needed some lube. Not hard to do under the car by any means, but probably easier to check when the engine is out. Throw-out bearing too.

I'd also do a carbon cleaning. It's a bitch bending over the fender and hyper-extending the knees.

Remove serpetine and check condition. Check condition of pullies and evidence of striking the subframe. Don't want to pull an Enrita here!

Hell, I'd check the turbo oil feed lines too. Very simple and quick.

That's all I can think of for now.

Check out the AR Stg III Oil Cooler. Even a Stg II would be better than going back to stock. That is if the Ins is paying for a new OEM oil cooler. Anything they are listing as a replacement part, I would look at what your options are for aftermarket. It's your car and your money. Make sure the shop understands they are working for you and not your insurance company. Sometimes they forget...

Once the insurance cuts a check, you can do what ever you want with that money to fix up your car. MTech bumper, vented hood, M3 front quarters panels, 7" FMIC, high performance cooling fan.... You can go with upgraded lighting also. Have fun... I know it sucks you're without a car, but just think what you'll have when it's done... BTW, do yourself a favor and move the meth pump to the trunk along with your meth tank. You should also get a good charge pipe with forged DV's or BOV. $$$ Have fun.

My question is how is your car not totaled? Usually if the rails are bent that is a major repair and the car is never the same again...

As terrible as this all sounds, you guys are forgetting one thing...

It's his car and regardless of how much dmg the emotional connection will always be there.

Do anything that you can aftermarket while you have the opportunity.
Just make sure that the shop isn't telling your insurance co. About all the aftermarket goodies you're using or else you might get screwed.

I have a ER sport oil cooler on the way along with an M tech front bumper
Clutch was replaced with ACT a short while ago.

Car's worth about 22k.
So far I've got a check for 10k . Progress is slow and they are still checking everything out.

I've learned to not get attached to cars. I want it totaled and wouldn't mind starting over again with something else.

That car should have more then 18k in parts and labor... I guess you didn't bring it to a BMW certified body shop? It would have been over 22k there...

I took it to the best shop in my area. They only do BMW/mercs. The bmw dealer here is listed as a BMW cert shop but I know for sure they just send cars to the shop I took it to. Plus their tech's there have screwed up my car numerous times.


They are quite slow though since they have so many cars needing work. I should have a decent progress report soon if the motors pulled.
The adjuster hasn't come out since the bumpers been pulled to inspect for more damage so we will see.
