Shop to install turbos
Anyone know of a place in NoVA or the surrounding area that won't charge an arm and a leg to do a turbo install?

Without a lift? That'll be like 18hrs. I've talked to clem already.
After seeing someone get the turbos installed for 700 for 2, im shooting for the range of 800-950. |

lol its just more stuff that can go wrong in a bmw. turbo in a suby is simple, you can see it. mind you, here i gotta drop the steering rack, drop some of the subframe, move everything around just to get access. once getting access clearance is an issue. i have active steering so that contraption is in the darn way.

I've done a RS4 turbo swap in a B5 S4. The engine must be pulled. Now that's an intensive install. I used to drop subframe and steering rack in my GTI with my eyes closed.

First off, the thread you linked doesn't show all that much detail. There isn't one piece of useful info after the downpipes are off which is less than 30 minutes in. Where's the other 8 hours of instruction? Another nice exclusion is the amount of oil and coolant that seems to drip endlessly during the entire job. I always have a mop at the ready and I generally end up just walk around in the shit after tiring of cleaning it up repeatedly. Laying on your creeper in the driveway is going to be a flat out mess. Downpipes, intercooler are coilovers are all possible DIY's for most. Installing N54 turbo's is best left to an experienced tech. Be smart and hire one for this. |

PSUSMU,
Since you're so (over) confident about swapping turbos, why don't you do Cityazndan's turbos swap on jack stands in his driveway and we'll all come watch??? ![]() BTW, I've done 90% of the mod installs on my 335.....but I know when to turn things over to a professional (see other 10%).

Clem did my turbo install over 8k miles ago. Went without a hitch, and I learned a lot about my own car in the process. Win/win for me.
It's best to know your own limits. I know some people can take apart and put back together an entire car, and I know I'm not one of those people. I am learning, though.

+ 1 for the Clem turbo install (and other mods). You can see pictures of my car in the shop for RB turbo install here:
