May be buying DCT
So how much tq can the DCT handle? I'm thinking about getting a 135i with DCT. Of course I plan to go FBO with meth immediately and drag race regularly. I just finished reading up on the DCT but haven't heard of one failing yet. I was reading a little about upgraded clutch packs. Are these readily available and how much are they?

No one has successfully run upgraded clutch packs, AFAIK, and if you are a drag racer, you might want a steptronic car instead. The launch control on the DCTs hasn't produced any good 60 foot times and from the reviews posted on here, is kind of a pain (on the dragstrip).

That's kind of what I was wondering, would I just be better off with a 6AT. In that case I'll prob just look for another n54. Thanks for the input.

Don't discount the majority of owners who absolutely LOVE the DCT on a daily driver basis, or even mild road course use. When it comes down to it, how often are you at the strip? 1% of the time you're using the car?
A 4th gen Camaro (LS1) is the best bang for the buck in terms of modern dragstrip queen cars, IMO, if that's what you're into. |

Nah, I hate American cars. I usually go to the drag strip twice a month. I love my 335i. I just can't get the times that the 6AT guys get with my 6MT. I'll prob pick up a 2010 6AT so I can keep my n54.

DCT will give you the best drag times (shifts faster, better gearing), but FBO + meth you'll be exceeding the TQ limits (it's 420 ft lbs).
SSP sells 600 + 700 WHP clutch upgrades, there's full threads documenting the DCT upgrade on the M3 forums after all the DCT owners with superchargers started to feel their clutches slipping |

yeah was just reading that the clutch disk upgrade up to 600 hp is around $1700 + around $600 labor from my local shop. $2300 isn't too bad I guess, just not sure that it will make a N55 DCT faster than my N54 6MT. (I suck at drag racing the 6MT which is why I'm looking at DCT or 6 AT)
