Tablet Console Mount

With the release of the Nexus 7 Tablet, I'm trying to think of some creative way that I could utilize it in-car. Since it's only 7 inches, it seems that it would be the perfect size for maps/gps/spotify/ODBII info (maybe). Since my car has iDrive, I can't really mount it on the dash, nor do I really want to. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any way to console mount a tablet? Keep in mind the car is also a 6MT, so It has to not interfere with shifting to 5th/6th. I'm not really sure if this would be possible at all, but I figured I would see what is out there.

FWIW, this is what I ended up doing: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...92&postcount=8

I was just going to use it for the car I would have gotten a 7'' tablet.

See, I have iDrive in my 330, so mounting on the dash is probably out of the question. I wish I didn't have iDrive, as I'd have more options, and it would look a bit less stupid having 2 display screens in the car (if I do manage to mount this thing at some point).

I'm debating trying to custom mold a dock that can be attached to the console mount ProClip. I want something that I can just slide my Nexus into that will have the micro usb and audio-out both molded into it. I'm trying to keep it looking as clean as possible. I've also considered the console Kuda mount, but i'm afraid that any way I would mount that, I'd hit it with my hand when shifting.

I think I've come up with a pretty good idea for how to mount a tablet in my 330 (with iDrive). For starters...I hate iDrive. I would swap it out for a non iDrive dash, but that's probably way too much work. So, i'm thinking that instead of doing that, why not fabricate an insert out of fiberglass that I can basically slide into the hole where the iDrive screen is, that I can then mount a tablet holder on. What i'm envisioning is molding this piece to have a flat face that would be flush with the front of the iDrive nav lip (if that's what you want to call it). I would then wrap the piece in black leather or pleather to make it look stock. It would either be held in via friction or magnets, to be easily removable IF I do need access to the iDrive screen (for service warnings, etc).

I plan on giving this a shot this coming weekend. I think I'll create a mold out of polystyrene foam and then wrap the fiberglass around that to create the actual piece. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.

how did you attach the RAM mount to the KUDA mount? did you have to mess with the connector? I would like to do pretty much the same thing using this ram mount (http://www.rammount.com/CatalogResul...5/Default.aspx) for the Nexus 7 but am not sure if it will fit on the KUDA mount. It doesn't look like they attach in the same way.

I used a couple of the mounting plates with a short connecting arm between them (RAM-B-347U & RAM-B-201U-A). One plate is screwed into the KUDA mount and the other directly to the tablet mount. The socket arm gives you a good amount of flexibility to adjust how high/low/left/right you want it. They have different versions of those ball plate connectors depending on which mount you go with. It looks like that one only has two mounting holes so you could probably use this one: RAM-B-238U.

Ohh thanks for explaining that to me, so the KUDA mount doesn't come with a ball plate right? They are kind of lacking pictures of their products on the website.

I had a Kuda mount in my TSX...it's just the mount...no plates or anything like that...that's all separate.

I just ordered a bunch of RAM parts to hopefully build a mount that will sit right in front of (or on) the iDrive screen (mine has the plastic cover in front of it...which might make a good mounting surface). I'll post some pics as well once it's all setup.

Alrighty folks...I got my RAM Mount hardware today and setup the dash mount. The mounting hardware (suction cup and arm) fits pretty much perfectly inside the iDrive screen cubby-hole. See the attached picture. I'll get some better shots with my DSLR once I have it all wired up and such (that's the next challenge). Anyone know how easy it is to run a wire from that spot down to either the 12v port in front of the shifter or back to the center console? I'd like to hide it behind the dash if possible.

Damn, is that the Nexus 7?
It seems awful big, other 7" tablets I´ve loocked at doesnt seem so big in your hand, guess its another thing when you install it in the car

I was actually thinking of getting an iDrive console and fit into my no-iDrive car for a Nexus 7, but its obvious it wont fit.
But isnt the default iDrive screen 8.8", or am I completely wrong?
I guess it has another ratio, more slim/wide.
