2009 328i sound system - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

I recently purchased a certified 2009 328i xdrive from a dealer and was told it comes with a standard sound system.

I looked up this "standard" system and it seems it comes with 10 speakers, including 2 subwoofers under the front seats.

A few days after delivery I decided to check on the speakers and noticed it only had 6 - no subwoofers and no speakers / nor speaker grills in the back doors.

The dealer sent me a spec sheet confirming the standard system has 10 speakers and asked me to go to
the service dept to locate them.

The service dept wasn't able to locate them and they indicated they would look into it.

What are my options?

the subs are under the seats i think. I have standard and I think its only 4 speakers, 2 in front and 2 in back

Standard only comes with 4 mids and 2 underseat subs.

While the HiFi comes with 4 mids, 4 tweeters, and 2 underseat subs.

If you don't have tweeters or a little speaker grill inside where your side mirrors are then that's definitely a standard.

I have two speakers on each side up front (one each on the front doors and one each right inside/against the outside mirrors.

And two behind the rear seats. no subwoofers under the front two seats.

I checked the specs and the 6 speakers are standard for the 320 however the "standard" for the 328i is the hifi 10 speaker system.

I thought the 328i has the 10 speaker system as a standard and an optional Logic 7 upgrade with 13 or so speakers.

Appreciate your responses guys.

Well there is the base system, hifi system, then logic/harmon system.

I really don't know how the sound system is setup on older models.

I have been told the stereo system with no amp has been in Canada for awhile, and thats what they consider the standard system. There are speakers under the seats even in that one . You have to pay for both the other two system in rest of the World.

Still waiting to hear back from the dealer.

I should have a good case based on the forum feedback thus far and the spec sheet that the dealer provided previously.

Do you guys think there is a likelihood that the dealer may provide the speakers based on what should be in the car?

If you have the base or stereo system (standard system in rest of world)
You need more than speakers because it has no amp.
And even the Hi Fi system with the amp is pretty weak
with no midrange and everything gets muddy and harsh when
you turn it up a little.

Is this under your seats?

Alright - so I dug around some more, got on my hands and knees and was finally able to locate the two subwoofers under the front two seats.

They are attached to the floor as opposed to right under the seat. Black grill and black carpeting - no wonder I missed it.

The dealer is also saying that the 1" tweeter and the 4" midrange are connected within the same speaker grill in the rear.

Is this possible?

If so, then I am able to count 10 total.

When they brought the Hi Fi system back in the the US after discontinuing
it for the 2010 model year they deleted tweeters from the rear of the the car in both the Hi Fi and Top Hi Fi l7 system so the number of speakers was 8 and 11 instead of the previous 10 and 13 . You may have gotten one of those somehow. I am not sure of this maybe someone else could chime in .

The rear speakers make very little difference to the overall sound.
It looks like you have Hi Fi if you are not satisfied with it your only choice is
to modify it.
In entry 14 you said you had counted all the speakers.
Anybody got a picture of a rear deck with tweeters.

Yes, it is possible. In my 2009 335i with HiFi (US) the rear mids and tweeters are under the same grill on the rear deck. (i.e. one mid and one tweeter under one grill)

Kind of small but I quickly googled this...

And even the Hi Fi system with the amp is pretty weak with no midrange and everything gets muddy and harsh when you turn it up a little.

The tweeter and 4 inch in the door are connected in parallel.
