Looking at buying a E92.. high miler.. thoughts..

Appreciate peoples thoughts on this...... especially 320d coupe owners.....

1. Would you rule out a 320d m sport with ~95k on the clock?
2. What would you expect to pay? Its a 2007, heated leather and tinted windows.

anything else I should consider? Really tempted

We have a 2007 E91 as one of the Company's cars, currently on 155k, had a turbo failure about 120k which was the only major issue to date.

Don't rule it out.. although I wouldnt touch it uless it had a full service history...

95k for a 5 year old car isn't really a lot in the scheme of things, I know i do 20k a year to and from work which is all motorway miles so no excessive (unusual) wear to brakes suspension bushes etc.

without knowing full spec, manual or auto etc i would go with edowen and say definitely don't pay over 10 grand, there are some nice average mileage examples around for not too much more.

hey mate,

i have a 325d m sport bought it at 102k miles, only issue i had was the DPF but had that removed

dont be put of by high miles they run great as long as they are well maintained at main dealers etc

rough prices, check on autotrader for the same cars with the same spec, will give you a better idea!!!

I just bought a e90 320d with 95k on the clock and it feels solid and tight still pulls hard etc, also had a e46 with 123k my mates had 220k and my bros e36 has 162k all have run without any issues i always buy on condition and service history with higher mileage cars and its paid off everytime with a bmw

10K sounds a bit high to me, more in the region of 8 - 8.5k I would have thought.

Can I ask what you paid P 5UML? PM me if you like

It claims full BMW service history - its a manual, love the idea, but something is niggling at my spending such an amount (its asking price is 10,9xx something) on a car that's done 95k.... I'm looking at 5 years ownership at least....I don't do more than 6-9k a year myself so I suppose at the end of that 5 years I'd be looking at about 140k on the clock.... probably still get at least 5-6k for it then I suppose

2007/7 BMW E92  [2.75]
I got mine last year with 89000 miles. Its a 320d auto.

The only problems I had:

1. Crankshaft vibration dumper (cost around 600 quid) covered 50% in warranty by the seller.
2. DPF cleaning (cost around 140 quid) but it made the car breathe like new again!

The car had a full service history and it was what I was after and at the budget I was after. Since then the car drives faultless. No regrets.

95k really is nothing on an engine these days. You may have some exhaust emission control problems such as EGR valves or a DPF but the rest should be fine. I have a 320D with 121k on the clock and it sailed through its MOT once again and has not been any problem. If we did not have another little one on the way and needing the extra boot space of a touring I would be holding on to it.

Car with higher mileage will also typically have spent more time on the motorway so the suspension will not have been battered travelling over speed bumps and pot holes or at least that is my thinking.

I would suggest on a modern diesel you are in some ways better off with a car which has been driven a lot. DPF failures tend to occur more quickly when modern diesels just pootle around town, for example.

That said, if you only do 6-9k a year, I'd be looking for a petrol model.

I would be worried about potential issues with the clutch/DMF, turbo, timing chain and DPF at that mileage.

There's so many large bills waiting around the corner with the 20d once you get above 90k, I plan on changing mine before it gets into that range.

If i was after higher mileage vehicles then i would look at the 330d. Doesn't seem to suffer with as many issues later in life.

what are these large bills?

mines just hit 90k and the turbo went shortly after which was 1100 don't fancy anymore of those

One of the first I sat in (when looking) was a E90 with over 100k on. Was a black M-Sport with black leather and I loved it. I tried to justify the mileage even though I knew it wasn't a good idea. Anyway, I googled the dealer which led me to this forum. If you read the sticky in this section about that dealer, you'll know why I left the car.

I ended up with an AUC E92 and am very happy with that decision.

I think the fact that you created this thread means you're not sure about the car and if you get it then the mileage will always be on your mind.

As said, if you have no warranty and a turbo goes pop then you need deep pockets.

For me, I'd look around. You could probably get one with lower mileage for a couple of grand more. Over a couple years of finance, that wouldn't work out much more.

In sept 2012 I paid 13k for a 325d e92 m sport on a 57 plate. Had 87k on the clock. Got it from bmw dealer so has a year warranty, breakdown and prett much all options available on it.

I would be concerned about timing chain as I had a 57 520d m sport and timing chain needed replacing. That was the only issue with the car. Sold it at 125k on the clock. 320d are suffering timing chain problems.
