Seems like everyone is too lazy to post a pic of it. If nobody post up the pics, I'll post it up when I get my car back from the bodyshop.

By unplugging that actuator you do the same as golf tee mod?

yes, though it is rumored there is a stored error code in the computer. No CEL, but a stored error code - no harm done, other than next time the car is in they"ll check why

Yes please post this pic as i love the sound of this engine and if it can get a lil louder without me buying an exhaust I'm ready for it!! I'm running home right now, please post ASAP!

+1.

If such an easy fix can make the exhaust sound louder, there is no need for an aftermarket cat back! Can the actuator be plugged back in if necessary?

There was a pic and I cant remember which thread its on.

Regardless, when facing your open trunk, look to the left. Over the drivers side tailights, there is a carpet colored cap. Just remove that cap(snaps in poorly).

If you look down youll see the connector. What you want to do is SQUEEZE the metal pin against the connector. Then pull up. It should come off with a little tug. You can just rest the connector in there anywhere.

Done.

Ok just unplugged the solenoid on my e90 335xi and wow, much more bass at <3000 rpm, very nice and smooth but after a while can get a little annoying i have to say. Nice thing is it's so easy to plug back! Someone should set it up with a switch so you can press loud exhaust on/off from the dashboard.

I hate to say it but it may feel like little less turbo lag, yes there is turbo lag in the 335i, throttle is not instantaneous by any means but no real deal-breaker just a nice mild reminder of the crazy turbo 80's (lol).

Nice mod, i really did not feel like messing with the tubing, this is very easy and quickly reversible. Thanks for pointing it out, it made my evening and once again makes the 335i such a nice easily tweakable machine (even if most change here is subjective...)

After trying a borla on my M3 (which was too loud and was taken off after 3 weeks) i have sworn off non-stock exhausts (except a tubi if i ever get a F-car)

2) 2004 e320 (some lag, but associated with the auto transmission i think)
3) 2005 mini cooper S (automatic, but cannot feel any lag at all.. i think thats the difference between the superchanger and the turbo, especially with the step paddle shifters, power is always right there)
4) 2005 c230 kompressor (getting sold simply bec of the amount of @# turbo lag from a slow start on the street.. that car is simply horrible to drive).
5) Used to have a 2004 325i with absolutely smooth, no lag power.. hence the c230 is getting replaced by the new 3er coupe.
No you don't know what turbo lag is. kompressors are superchargers and superchargers are basically pulley systems. The lag you're speaking about for the e320/c230/Mini is the lag of having an auto.

Sorry but you dont know what turbo lag is...at all. If you think your 3.2liter NA V6 in your E320 has lag, you really have some issues. Oh, and kompressor = supercharger. No such thing as "turbo lag" on a supercharger because it does not build boost. Like jas0n said, superchargers run on pulleys.

I just unplugged the cable and it is much louder at low rpms. As far as less turbo lag I really didn't notice a difference.

Did the proceed really give you a more noticeable lag? I will be installing mine in a few days after I have the car serviced.

I can sense a small amount of lag...particularly if you are floating along at 3K rpm and then romp the throttle to pass...it will hesitate for a second and then build power/speed very quickly. But this is so petty it's not worth mentioning and definitely not worth complaining about. The thing is damn fast and damn smooth. They did a brilliant job of making it virtually seamless.

As for the golf tee trick, it works to increase volume. I don't see it helping to "free up" the exhaust considering the cats are probably the most restrictive part of the system, and this is long after the cats. But a little extra volume under 3K rpm is a great sound to hear. I am a +1 on the simple mod.

you dont know lag untill you've driven a chipped 5cylinder running 20psi of boost. with a single large turbo.

Crap, I should've gotten a coupe. These two extra doors are giving me turbo lag.

I drove my car back to back with a 330 ZHP the other day. Until around 2700-2800 rpms they feel similarly quick....then the 335 takes off. It was almost strange to be back in NA car and have nothing much happen.

Actually, The kompressor is not exactly a supercharger, or a turbo, though it does have turbine like in a turbo. The e320 has lag, but i agree that that is probably due to the auto.

Also, i didnt realise that supercharger's didnt build boost.. i do have a boost gauge in the mini and now im not sure why i bothered with it ?
