RFT to Non-RFT (2 rear tires only) - BMW 3-Series (E90 E92) Forum

Since i only get 25k on my michelin rft, i decided today when i replaced my bald rear tires with regular michelin pilot A/S (non-rft).

My 2 rft michelin in the fronts are still ok maybe 30% treadlife left.

Do i need to replaced the 2 rft fronts to non-rft too? Or i can wait few more months when it really needs replacement?

Please give me advice.

Not u can go a few months with it like that.
But for a world different, i would change the front too.

tirerack recommends same brand, same model of tires on all four corners. goodluck

I would change those two front run-flat tires to non run-flat. I thought about that myself b/c I too had some tread life in the front tires when my rears went bald. That's what you have to deal with b/c of a staggered setup, no tire rotations. Trust me, once you change out the fronts, you'll notice better handling and a more responsive steering wheel with lighter tires.

how people get 25k miles out of tires... especially rears... is beyond me.

it's not recommended to mix and match tires

With non rft at the back, it feels strange when running over 70mph, it seems like the steering wheel is too sensitive and the car is not planted on the road. Kind a like the car is a little out of control.

Im thinking ditching the rft tomorrow, i wnt to get more opinion.

Avoid mixing tires, especially run flats with non run flats. Search and find many members reporting problems when mixing the two.

i am in the same boat as you but my research on this forum has indicated its a bad idea though for a short (temporary) basics it would be okay.

I just brought pirelli all season rear new from Tire Rack, the front used from a member. The ride is much better. Does it mean TPMS wont work anymore? Code warning will never reset?

exactly. I wouldn't recommend mixing, car may feel imbalanced and unstable.

Thanks for the advice guys! this morning i replaced the 2 old front rft this morning. now i am running michelin pilot sport A/S...

I can now tell... wowow! what a difference... ride is quieter.. even with smal bumps... handles the same or better and still planted over 80mph

You made the right decision.

Having RFT in front and non-RFT in rear will cause your car to oversteer because the front tires are much stiffer than the rear. Making matters worse is that the non-RFT in the rear are new. Sounds like a dangerous setup to me.
