Thumbs up DME updated. Finally.

Went in for my scheduled maintenance/oil change and they finally updated my integration level. My original was E89x-10-09-511 and my new one is E89x-12-07-504. I have no idea how that converts to the 24.x.x form so if anyone knows, I'd like to know. Also, I'm "assuming" this is the latest version since I went back to the old DME thread and the numbers in my integration level look higher people who had their DME updated previously (assuming a higher number means newer version).

Believe it or not, the complaint that finally got them to make the change for me (after verification, I'm assuming) was that my angel eyes didn't always come on when I unlocked the car and also that my ipod playlist would revert to alphabetical after I turned the car off/then on again.

Can someone please confirm that I have a newer software version based on the E89x-12-07-504 number? Thanks.

Also... Time for a JB Stage 2!!

Funny- three different dealerships told me a DME update does absolutely jack shit for most 3ers. The exception was the M3.

A DME update is simply a software update to fix issues. From what I understand there are multiple modules that they reprogram and engine tuning (or the way the sensors interpret data) is just one aspect. Electronics are another, and in my case, fixing an electronics issues was enough reason to reprogram all the modules.

There have been reports that newer DME versions have detuned our cars (people noticing things like less exhaust pop and more or less lag), but nothing to verify them. I've even heard this in passing from SA's. So I do think that the DME affects the drivability of the car.

Also, I didn't create this post to suggest the DME made my car run any different. It's simply something that I needed to get done before I could upgrade my tune.

Ahhh okay.
Some guys around here made it sound like it was a magic panacea to make the car magically faster or something lol.
Thanks for the info!

Stage 2 ordered!

Also, the car does drive differently after the DME update. Cold starts and warm starts don't sound nearly as "mean" as before. The revs go up to just above idle and settle down without too much drama. The ticking from the front is vastly reduced. Boost seems to come on smoother, with less of the lag and less surge than before as well. I can see why people think this detunes the car, but I'm not so sure that the car is actually slower, it just doesn't feel like it has a typical turbo acceleration curve anymore, more linear acceleration.

Its not slower, its just not as aggressive from part throttle to full throttle.

Also E89x-12-07-504 is the newest DME software you can get. its 2.47.2 It just came out mid July.

^Agreed. It feels REALLY smooth compared to before.

Do you know what they've done to make the car feel so different? Changes in fueling or the way the bypass works?
