OP just remember that most people in the forums only post when something goes wrong.

N54 is meh... Had injector, hpfp, lpfp and waste gate issues. Sounds average. Comes in a car with an average suspension and an open diff...
All I got to say is meh.

7000 miles Water pump crapped out on me. 10k LP sensor took a dump. All in all those parts are POS but the engine itself especially the earlier build motors with forged internals is a great motor.

He hasn't posted again... I wonder if this was a setup.
Just for that I'm getting on a Honda forum and asking why Honda has a great turbo motor but refuses to put it in a car. They even go as far as changing the mount configurations to deterr enthusiasts from swapping it into the cars.

I can't think of any real legitimate complaints about the engine other than wastegate rattle, which is covered. The hpfp isn't an engine component, but still covered. We are hearing complaints about the water pump going out, but on all 3 series models, not just n54 engines. Plus, it's summer and probably being complained about on all car forums right now. Leaking oil filter housing gasket is across 335, 328, 325, and 330. All 3 n54 335i's I've owned have been rock solid.

160 was the max for the b16 block unless you have bolt ons then I agree
B18 blocks were much better after, especially using the frankinstien build

My car has had some problems and I've had to deal with BMW to get things fixed, sometimes multiple times (Wastegate actuators, turbos, etc...) but when the car is running good, it does put a big smile on my face. It's all the other expensive stuff I'm worried about when the warranty runs out

Was just going to say, no B16 puts down 185hp when stock lol.au e you meant the B18 type-R? That was 195 and the B18 GSR was 185. Amazing little engines and both revved well over 8grand!

Fun times!!

there aren't just a whole lot of motors that can double in power w/o having something internally swapped.

US Acura Integra's

B18c1 - GSR motor, 170hp. 8000rpm red line. Used to have one with bolt ons, miss it, quick little 2500lb car.

B18c5- Type Rrrrr, 195HP and one of the best NA motors ever produced. Red line 8500 if I'm not mistaken. Both 1.8L, the latter motor had the most HP per liter of any NA car at the time.

Back to n54 talk. Great award winning motor. When you mod more components can malfunction, goes with the territory. A few issues but still worth it. 400whp for a little bit up money and you have a beast.

01 Type-R was the second best car I ever owned. Redline was 8400 and once v-tec kicked in.....it was almost like having a turbo. B18C5 was an amazing engine.
Love my N54.....Cant wait to mod mine.

I have had every issue with my car. It was the early 07 build and BMW swapped them all out. Turbos, HPFP, Injectors, coils, plugs, waterpump. I have 101K and boosting at 18psi with @ 420wph. OH, VANOS! nobody has said a word about vanos! So many of us were plegued with the dreaded vanos issue and it seems to be cleared up so well that everyone forgot about it. It was the biggest problem with my car from the day I got it. Get a new n54 or one that has had all of the above items replaced.
