What engine oil will you use?

Just wondering how regular do you change your engine oil and which brand do you think suits best for our BMW engines? If I'm not wrong, BMW recommends Castrol...

I'm with RichReg... you can't go wrong with Mobil 1 synthetic.

Whatever the dealer uses on scheduled maintenance, that's what will go in my 330.

Previously, BMW has used Castrol as their OEM lubricant supplier. Not sure if that still holds (probably so). Mobil1 is well known and good stuff. Personally, I love Amsoil and have used it with great results in past and current cars. But it would be hard to go wrong with the OEM oil - I think it was Castrol synthetic on the E46.

BMW has recently changed their reccomendatio to their spec LL04, currently only Castrol and Mobils new " low emmisions formula" conform to it

Spec LL01 is still allowed in the E90 at the moment and the top of the range Mobil 1 does conform to it

Dealesr here use Castrol TXT LL01 5W-30 exclusively for non M cars and will soon change to either the new Castrol SLX LL04 0W-30 or the soon to be introduced Castrol TXT LL04 5W-30

Cool - thanks for the info. Honda and Ford have gone to 5W-20, so nice to see that BMW is sticking with the 0W-30 and 5W-30.

On my previous ride, E46, I'm using Mobil One and my local workshop did recommend me using Amsoil or OWS.

You guys think it's ok to use Amsiol 5-W30 for my first change at 1250 miles and then use mobil 1 there after? Reason I'm asking is I have 7 quarts of the stuff left. Is it bad to mix synthetics? If so I'll just save the Amsoil and by what eer the dealer will use.
