Question for those running staggered - specifcally 19's
As a relative new guy to the E9X scene, I'm not a prolific poster on here, but I do tend to sit back and read/digest as much as I can.....this has led to a question.
I'm waiting on my new 19" summer wheels to turn up (Work VS-XX) and am getting ready to order the tires up so I can be ready to go. The one thing I'm confused about is what seems to be a generally accepted preference for tire sizing of 235/35/19 F with 265/30/19 R. My confusion lies with the rear sizing and why 275/30/19 isn't used more commonly due to it's overall diameter/revs per mile being closer to 235/35/19 than the aforementioned 265/30's. Is it mainly due to available space (or lack thereof) in the fenders? Your thoughts on the matter would be appreciated. Last edited by skylineguv; 08-08-2012 at 08:41 AM. |

I think people are concerned with rubbing in the back when lowered - especially depending on the offset of the wheel as PGZ11 noted.
Also, and this doesn't make sense to me, but some people believe that there shouldn't be more than a 30mm difference in width front to back. I'm running a 40mm difference front to back since the revs per mile were closer.

Well thanks for the feedback guys.
I'll definitely be running 275's and will need to roll anyway due to my chosen fitment......I know agressive fitment isn't everyone's cup of tea so let's not even go there. I don't quite understand the need to retain a max 30mm difference between front and rear tire widths either. Only thing I can think of is how the xDrive system sees wheel slippage and apportions the drive accordingly, but I do not see the extra 10mm making any tangible difference in grip levels or that it'd have any negative affects. |

I'm running 235/35/19 in front with 275/30/19 in back. My rear wheel is 9.5" with an offset of +33 and the tire is Michelin PSS (which runs pretty wide). My fender isn't rolled and I don't have any rubbing but it's right at the limit. If the offset was even a couple of mm more agressive I'm fairly certain it would rub.

255/30/19 with 19x9.5 +20 with -2 camber. :P Hate on the skinny tires but i think with the AWD and good tires Toyo T1S, i dont have any problem with traction even in the rain.
I went a little skinnier though since i like to run flush wheels cut fenders FTW.

+1 for 235F/275R - I have 8.5F and 9.5R ET35 all around - I wish I got 245-255 in the front and 285 in the rear now - just make sure your tire specs say the diff in rolling dia is <=2% (not rev per mile diff). Guess I will just get spacers!

I'm getting (or may even have by now.....need to call the shop) Conti DW's and the overall/rolling dia is identical front/rear, as are the revs per mile, which is just a function of the circumference and therefore diameter anyway.
All I need now is for the wheels, tires and KW's to turn up for both mine and the wife's cars so we can at least roll on the new shiny stuff for a while before winter turns up again! |

275/30/19 R
245/35/19 F Rims are AG 359s, 19x9, 19x10. No rubbing. Rub marks were these from the previous owner. I can turn my steering wheel fully and no rubbing noises/marks. On ZSP suspension. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Which wheel are you running in the rear - 19x10 ET25 or 19x10 ET38? I'm thinking of trying to run your setup on my LCI.

ET38, 25 is a M3 offset and you will rub running that aggressive.
Ive been told the pre-LCI sedans have the most amount of room outta the E9xs, LCI or pre-LCI.

Do you have any more pictures - I'd love to see how flush these are with the body as well as get an idea of how 'meaty' the tires look on the rim. |

The thread is kinda redundant now as I've already got the wheels/tires mounted on the wife's car (235/35/19 and 275/30/19) along with the KW V1's.
Still waiting for my wheels.....they're finished but still in Japan waiting for a ride over this way. Wife's car as it sat last weekend. Still some minor tweaks to the ride height required, but otherwise pretty much how we wanted it. ![]() ![]() |

sorry for jacking this thread, but ive been searching for someone running the 225/40 & 255/35 setup on an xi e90 for about two days. you must be the only person on the forum that runs this setup! anyways, thinking about doing the same thing on my 06 330xi, but running style 269 wheels (19x8 et 37 & 19x9 et 39). you have any thoughts or comments about your setup after installing it? also, might you be willing to share some pics if you have any? my car isn't lowered like yours, but lowering with the huge number of potholes around here is not a good idea, especially after accounting for snow. my biggest concern is the rubbing, which you mention is not an issue, and i could care less about the speedometer being 3-4% off. thanks in advance for your help, its greatly appreciated.
