Just witnessed some dodgy card scammers

Outside a Chinese. My mate was collecting a Chinese and there was an old shitbox Renault outside, two lads sat there, one front passenger with a laptop and another in the rear passenger seat with a laptop on the parcel shelf connected via a cable to a smaller device but bigger than a iPhone. It did look like a large phone type thing. Thought it on and looked like he was filming down the road. I actually went upto the partially opened rear window and said, " are you guys under cover old bill" knowing full well they wasn't. The foreign lad said no... "Internet connection"

It then dawned on me they must have one of those card scammers. Do they scam all cards being used in chip & pin devices in the Chinese and two pubs in the vincinity ??? Can they scam my cards in my pocket that I didn't use?

We called the police and once they knew we Sussed em made off sharp ish

?

They could have been doing anything. There used to be a vulnerability between the wireless card devices the waiter brings you and the base station as it wasn't encrypted, but this was a few years ago.

Slightly off topic but those wireless/Bluetooth handsets are seriously unsecure and unreliable to boot. I know of a very well known restaurant chain that loses thousands every year because transactions just don't go through at busy times. Everything looks fine at the restaurant end and to the customer but the transaction just disappears into the ether if it can't be processed.

Maybe they were downloading porn while the one filming down the road was making improper videos of our English womenfolk.

Apparently, there is a big vulnerability with certain older Verifone chip and pin devices at the mo,which leave them open to hack.
However,it's probably a 'Lebanese loop' type scam at a local cashpoint.

Get one of these and you should be allright.
