Maybe if it were named Carbon Buildup.....

The funny thing is with police cars being driven hard, they probably would never have the carbon build up issue. And with the triple turbo diesel in the 50d available in Europe, there would be few other cars it could not catch.

US Gov't put the kibosh on that. The domestics received the loans whereas Carbon Motors did not. Politically it just could not happen (US Gov't indirectly supporting a foreign car company) .

Police cars are driven hard, when driven. They also sit, idling for hours on end.

think about how much $$$ could be saved nationally on fuel if all new law enforcement vehicles were diesel. Probably solve the debt crisis overnight

Fuel costs have to be balanced with maintenance costs. What scares me as a taxpayer would be the added complications of the twin turbos. On the other hand, police and municipal mechanics would be the ones doing the fixing, so those repairs would be in-house and probably relatively cheaper than private mechanics for the rest of us, not to mention dealer repairs. This in turn would provide a supply of trained mechanics for the revolving door going solo for the rest of us to use for our own cars. But no more...
