LOVE the under hood mic and exhaust mic. I have been dreaming of having my head under that hood listening to that turbo since I went in Shiv's car. That video just made me extremely jealous again. You must have one of the fastest BMW's in the Midwest and it drives like stock around town. On any other platform this type of modification usually changes the characteristics of the car so much it makes it un-enjoyable.

But NOT with the N54, it's almost like it was meant to have the single turbo it runs so well and is so streetable. Congrats again to your setup and may you have many fun and safe days ahead with a smile from ear to ear. Keep up the good work!

Wow . . . The exhaust note under boost sounds sooo friggin good. So I'm going to ask the dumb question here when talking about 600+hp . . . but has your daily, non-insane driving MPG suffered much or at all? I imagine the out of boost characteristics wouldn't have changed much, and thinking about a car that can do 30mpg and 650whp is quite an amazing feat.

For me, I just love driving the car. You can beat on it relentlessly and its stable and consistent. It sounds amazing inside. I don't feel like I gave up anything.

It took a little time to re-learn the sweet spot of the car, but that was easy enough. On a 6AT, DS shifts a little low 2600-ish RPM. I just drive it Manual mode nowadays and I cruise at 3000-3200 RPM, always within striking distance. The transient response of the 58mm is even faster than the 62mm (if you can believe that).

This weekend I finally decided to let my other 335 FBO go ... It was a waste just sitting in the driveway. I had enough miles and seat time to realize there was nothing the FBO had that the single didn't.

So it went from FBO+Meth to Stock to Trade-in material ... for a ... (wait for it)

2012 Honda Odyssey (yes, a minivan).

I hope my blue single turbo 335 still allows me to keep my "man-card".
cupertinosteve, LOL!!!! Good stuff my friend. I would love to drive in a 58 to see if it feels the same as mine!!!

R1000K3, thank you. For me, high horsepower can be dangerous if the rear end is swinging. I tried to build a car that would be predictable and powerful.

kenneth, it has been 5 months from getting the car worked on to the end of this review. I am kind of looking forward to enjoying the car and thats it for now. We will see what I decide in the future.

(-(ellblazer420, I hoped the mic would sound good. I was pumped when I heard how good it sounded!

I have to agree that going single, dropping compression, and other mods normally take the driveability out of the car. The fact that we could stay high compression because of the DI makes this a whole different animal!

son_of_siggy, the car driving around town is identical to when I had twins. I honestly can drive around quietly and unassuming, then let the beast go whenever I want. It is crazy to have a car like this.

Question, are the Forge DVs just the same ones we normally buy, but with filters instead of the silicon recirculation tube? I'm planning on going single next month, and I just bought Forge DVs, so I'm hoping I get to reuse them.

Yes, that is correct. Same unit (just use yellow spring) but with filters on the ends, venting to atmosphere.

skinrock, I believe it is the same. Shiv can verify that.

Besides the power, how do the other mods feel that were done along the way.

1.) Driveshaft being installed right-side up, lol
2.) Didn't you get new coils?
3.) Differential mount

Great review again like your other reviews it's very thorough and unbiased. What are you running as far as drivetrain upgrades (Clutch, LSD, Half shafts?). And what upgrades would you recommend to run this kit safely on the streets.

pits200, my car is really probably one of the most heavily modded N54s in the world. Here is just a look at some of the other performance mods I have, but the list is much more lengthy...
  • Vishnu Procede Tune
  • HKS Legamax Full Exhaust
  • ClutchMasters Twin Disk FX850 clutch
  • ClutchMasters Light Weight Flywheel
  • Quaife Limited Slip Differential (LSD)
  • Driveshaft Shop 1000 hp Upgraded Axles
  • STETT Performance Stage 2 Race Oil Cooler with Setrab Core
  • Vishnu 3.25” Charge Pipe
  • Forge Dual Diverter Valves
  • STETT Upper Intercooler Hard Pipe (Black Powder Coated)
  • STETT Front Mount Intercooler
  • STETT Aluminum Stock Intake Block-off
  • M3 Rear Guide Rods
  • M3 Subframe Bushings
  • Delrin Differential Bushings
  • AST 4100 Coilovers
  • NGK Spark Plugs

The driveshaft gave me a low rpm rumble when I had the center section upside down. That is completely gone now.

My coils have not been replaced, so no real comment there. I did add the NGK plugs and they have been very stable thus far.

I added M3 subframe bushings, Turner Motorsports delrin diff bushings, and M3 lower guide rods (when my car returned). The wheel hop that plagued my car is 100% gone now. I strongly suggest these mods to others. The NVH is slightly higher with the delrin diff bushings and you can actually hear some of that whine in my videos. It only is noticeable on deceleration abouit 3500 - 3000 rpms with full interior. Overall, I am very pleased with those upgrades. I don't think any more suspension mods are needed at this point, but I may do toe arms still some day.

EvrGotti, thank you for the kind words.

I listed the upgrades above. Let me know if that helps or if there are more details you are looking for.

I can't tell anyone what they should run on their car. I have only experience on my car with the mods I have done. I can say that I am very pleased with my ASTs and mods I have done on this car with the power I am running. The car tracks well and straight and connects the power incredibly well.

Thanks for the list of suspension mods. Nice to know exactly what others are running - I plan on doing the subframe and diff bushings at the very least - considering the half-shafts, but I'm 6AT, so I may hold off.
