Royal Purple is a good brand. I use Castrol SynTech. Others have used Mobil 1. Just make sure it's the European formula, can't remember the prefix abbreviation, maybe LL something.

I've found that OEM BMW branded 5w30 synthetic is not only effective but is usually price competetive with Mobil 1, and other "premium" oils.

And since that is what my dealer has always used, I see little reason to change.

This is a good oil, but there are better, higher-quality oils available in the US.

The PAO-based 0-30 (Castrol) and 0-40 (Mobil) oils are well-priced and superior to the BMW branded oil (Castrol Softec)).

Buy BMW OEM 5w-30 from the dealer with your BMW CCA discount.

Shouldn't you still have free oil changes?
