It's not.
AT&T unlocks phones now and there are jailbreaks for even the latest iOS version 5.1.1.

You are running an Old OS that can't handle new apps.

Jailbreak, Dreamboard.

I meant on Apple's behalf as a stock UI option or default (as I know they don't like offering options in that regard).

I dont understand what people are upset about...its has 4g, a better battery (apparently), better processor and better screen. They have always just sort of matched the specs of everything else and this isnt any different. You buy the phone for the IOS. Im going to switch to my first iphone with the 5 and give it a shot, its nothing better than what i have but it should WORK better than what i have (which chooses not to work often), i hope. That being said, if the lumia 920 was coming out sooner i would be buying that instead. Thats an innovative phone, the iphone never has and never will be, but thats sort of the point with the iphone. You're buying a product that works and has a friendly setup for most.

EDIT: Oh, and if i dont like the iphone, i can sell it for more than any other phone at that point and buy something else. they seem to hold value well and are always in demand.

Fanbois will be fanbois, whether it's iOS or Android.

The one's bitching will still buy their iPhone 5 and be smug about it afterwards, as if they never thought twice about buying "the best phone on the market."

Yeah this happens every time a new one comes out. Every unveiling, there's massive disappointment and dissent, and they go out and buy them anyway only to preach to the masses about how much better it is than the previous one...

Pete, I thought those WERE features include in the iPhone 5, along with the kitchen sink. I will now have to reassess upgrading from my iPhone4. Okay, reassessed, gonna get it!!!

LOL I have a business account and my rep called me yesterday saying I can place the order yesterday if I wanted to. I thought it was odd but hey if I beat the crowds I'm not complaining lol.

The phone will be great just like the last generations of iphones. Superior build quality and I'll update my wife's 4. I'll stick with android though until Apple puts out a phone with the appropriate size for a man's hand.

I refuse to use a handheld device that needs to be operated with two hands, so that rules out all of the decent Android devices.

Am I the only one disappointed with the new connectors?

I have technically 20 USB connectors laying around and now I have to buy new cables or a stupid adaptor that cost $30 each? Now people have to carry 2 cables, one for iPad and one for iPhone.

Also, why the hell did apple change the sim card again?! They already changed it to a micro sim card making a pain in the ass to use another phone. Now it is a even tinier sim card. WTF.

What a huge disappointment. I am planning to just buy the 5 to resell and get the SG3

How much is a black Verizon 4S worth, almost mint condition? Wondering whether to keep my 4S as a remote control or sell it off.

I was originally waiting for the iphone 5 to come out, so I could upgrade from my htc evo 3d. Two weeks ago I walked in to a sprint store and checked out the Gs3. Sooo many features that my old iphone 4 didn't have, or any other phone on the market for that matter. I bought it and now that the iphone 5 is released, I'm glad I did. All apple did was make an attempt to MATCH the specs and features of an s3.

Talk about innovation. Maybe if they spent more time innovating and less time suing they might actually have a much better product.

BTW. This is coming from a Apple fan boy with a Mac, iPad, almost every iPod that came out since the first generation and every iPhone.

Hey, same here. I have nothing against apple, and I have owned a lot of their products starting with the first ipod shuffle. (the stick of gum one) But this new iphone... Nothing new, nothing special.

To be honest, I am a lot more happy with the iPhone 5 compared to the release of the 4s last year.

That was one of the biggest disappointment of the history of new release of Apple product.
