Mirror going crazy!!

So a few days ago I noticed my driver side mirror didn't want to adjust to my liking. I thought nothing of of it, maybe my seat was too far back idk.

Today I noticed it was rotated the complete opposite way. Wtf. It did this by it self while the car was off. I tried to move it back using the folding function. It would fold but when it was going back it did a 180. I had to snap it back myself. Well after work it decided to rotate the opposite way again.

You guys ever seen this. Before I take it in is this an easy DIY fix?

I had this about 6 months back! When I took it back to the dealer under warranty maintenance it turned out the mirror motor was bad (hence the constant changing when the car was off). It was a $50 deductible to get fixed which I happily paid. No problems since.

Good luck!

Have you tried counseling? Many mirrors benefit from a round of Thorazine and lithium and do quite well!

I went through this a month ago. If "resetting" the mirror does not work (manual moving it 90 degrees), your only option is to replace the mirror motor. I believe the part is like $485?
The sad part is the dealer said it was only a gear that had stripped, but they replaced the whole thing. Things don't get fixed anymore, they get replaced.
It's not like you could buy an individual gear for a mirror in a car anyways.

Try searching how to reset the mirror though. You'll find at least 3 or 4 threads on e90post about it.

Also, if you want to be able to drive with both mirrors, just stand outside the car and apply pressure against the over-extending mirror at the place you want it to stay. The power folding mirrors work by sensing resistance at the correct angle, so you're just gonna have to make your own resistance when it reaches 90 degrees since the gear is broken.

Right now you wish you had a mustang with a $37 mirror. Yes, i did just do a price check!

EDIT: My friend gave me the idea of buying a used mirror when i was going through the trouble of sorting out my issue last month. I think the used mirrors were like $170-$250. Not bad compared to a new housing's ~$500 bill
Feel free to ask any questions... I remember my mirror experience like a bad dream

Manually moving the mirror seems to work for now. I can even see better out of it. I was looking at the cars past history and it said that an outside mirror was replaced/repaired. I guess this happened before. Can something be causing the problem or maybe it wasn't repaired properly?

I have the same problem with my driver side mirror. When I rotate them in (using the folding function) while parking on a side road or for whatever reason it has a seizure while doing so.. yes a seizure.. and will not stop unless I hit the button again to turn them back out and that's when it does a 180 on me. I got it fixed months ago and was costly but after a little more than a month it came back. I've just gotten used to now turning it in manually when needed, not a very big deal. Just one of those things that gets under your skin as the car owner because every time you do it manually it reminds you of it..
