Dented oil cooler

Got a small dent about the size of a pound coin in the small radiator beneath the main radiator(oil cooler). The stone has pierced the plastic criss cross cowling and hit the rad behind. No leaks or overheating but worried it may impede the cooling. Should I get it checked out?

It's bent the fins and bent the horizontal aluminium bar that runs beneath the fins

Car is a 320d msport 2011

Can you take a picture as the rad in the lower part of the grill in front of the main water rad is the intercooler on diesels. Oil cooler is generally just a long pipe

As long as there is no hole you want loose pressure otherwise you might need a new intercooler good news its easily removed from underneath the bumper without removing any bumpers etc. Can be done on driveway with a jack and stands

It will still be under warranty anyway with it being a 2011, i would not worry.

thats the intercooler for the turbo , something like this wouldnt be covered under warranty but insepction of it woudl probably be. Though you would think if a hole was there causing a pressure leak this would register a fault on the ecu. I suppose you could smear fairy liquid on it and give the car a turn and few revs should work same way a puncture does with air rushing out and cause bubbles

Yep, thats the intercooler.

Warranty dosn't cover accidental damage either.

Inspection for what though?

In my experience, if it does give fault codes, as soon as you take it in they will say "we'll have a look, but if its accidental damage you'll pay for all the time'.

I hit a speed bump at 50 about 2 days after picking up the 335, the tracking was knocked out, so I took it in and they saw the scuffed undertray and bent anti roll bar link, so they refused the warranty straight away.

I had to pay the inspection (1/2 hour) plus 300 KDS plus an ARB link plus 1 hour fitting. 550 all in.

All my own fault, but it still stung. This is why the car never went near a dealers again!!

Ouch thats odd I think it depends if you are on extended or new warranty. Certainly on new warranty inspection of possibl efaults is covered if its something you are concerned about. (Has been for me anyway)

When on AUC or extended warranty again in past diagnostics have been covered. Obviously if then found not a failure but other factors then I can see why it would not be covered. But I suppose it woudl be down to the dealer at that point and what it is.

Many moons agon when had my 1st car (astra coupe) slid in the snow and hit the herb with nearside wheel damaging the bearing. Car was from carland (supermarket) and was fully covered for warranty for 12months. Went into a garage after checking with the after sales would be suitable (ie they would pay them) . Mechanic spotted the bent wishbone (obvious sign of impact) as I had already swapped the wheel over whcih was bent and simply had to pay 15 for the wishbone as it was one item he could not put through. No skin of his back he got paid and my bill was tiny. But at same time he coul dhave told the insurnace warranty and I would have to pay. Swings around you get luckysometimes

Certianly if OP is concerned about IC being punctured a trip to his original dealer to ask for it to be checked I cant see them charging for it and it it has a hole they can advise. Though then I would DIY it as its such a easy job
