Stock intake is pretty good by itself. There's not much to be gained with an aftermarket version. The stock version has a thick paper filter and also a carbon filter that reduces emissions when the engine is shut off.
There are several out there. BMW offers the performance intake in the U.S.. You can find info on BMW's website. Check out ECS Tuning for the European intake version. It looks nicer than stock an features a cone filter and easily removable lid to access the filter. A lot of people, including myself, take the cheap route and cut out the carbon filter and install a K&N filter. Another popular mod is to install intake scoops in front of the radiator to force air into the intake. It's questionable how much of a difference this makes in power. Even if it's measurable, I don't think you'll be able to feel it. There are better places to put your money for performance than intake and exhaust. I'd recommend a tune...There are a couple vendors that offer competing versions. Both are very good and you'll definitely feel the difference. |
