Starting to think about this upcoming Winter and a new set of performance snow tires. My previous set was Blizzak LM-22 rft's. Well, I've modded my suspension extensively, so rft's are out of the question. I need 225/45-17 and am interested in Michelin Pilot Alpin; I see there's a PA3 and a Primacy PA3. Anyone know the difference or have experience with these tires? Also interested in Bridgestone's performance snow tires. Don't need max snow traction as I drive my truck most of the Winter.

The Primacy Alpin PA3 should have slightly better snow and ice traction compared to a bit better handling and steering response with the Pilot Alpin PA3.

In 225/45R17 Bridgestone's most similar performance winter tire is the Blizzak LM60. The LM60 would be a noticeable step up in snow and ice capability from either Michelin PA3 model but not as performance oriented on dry roads.

Thanks Gary. I couldn't find a comparo of those tires on your website. Is there an LM 25 in my size that isn't rft? I didn't see one

Bridgestone no longer makes the LM25 in a non run flat as the LM60 has taken its place in Bridgestone's lineup.

The lm60 are pretty good I've had them for 2 winters now.

yea all winter tires will feel a bit squishy, especially compared to the stock runflats that i have for summer. but the handling is better than i expected it to be. I do still have to be very careful even in light snow.. the rear wheels will easily break loose if you aren't gentle with the throttle.....btw off topic but i see on your sig that you have an LSD on your 335i.. if you dont mind private messaging me and letting me know how it is and where you got it from and roughly how much it cost you.. im seriously considering this as one of my next few mods.

I have the Blizzak LM-60, 225 all around, they're pretty nice. Several friends in my area also run them and have no complaints (they recommended the LM-60s to me). The ride is soft and they are quiet on the highway. You won't get as much road feel with them compared to a summer tire and the traction control nanny comes on easily if you push it (I think it's over reacting esp. with the LSD). I can't complain overall, considering what they are.

Talked to Gary on the phone: LM60 a bit better on snow/ice v. Primacy PA3 a bit better on dry road handling. I liked the dry road handling of my LM22's. Guess I'll just flip a coin next month.
I know all about DSC coming on quickly in the Winter with 225's; lot's of snow and cold in Tahoe. That's why I didn't go with the M3 rear sway bar..

Gary: The deciding factor may be tread wear. Primacy PA3 v. LM 60?

It's going to be a funny sight this year ... race seats, race suspension, harness bar w/ 5 pt belts (going in soon) ... and snow tires.

We have no direct comparison on wear data between the two, but my gut feeling is that the Primacy PA3 would probably wear a bit longer.

I got LM-25 RFT because I was afraid that the ride is going to be too soft with the non-rft winter tires. My suspension is also modded. I put around 4K mi on these last winter and am impressed at the winter grip on dry winter roads and steering response considering the winter rubber compound. As others have noted you have to modulate the throttle on wet roads but no issues whatsoever. Just my 2c...

Did you change all the suspension linkages and bushings or just install the PS?

No, only PS and M3 front tension struts and wishbones.

See OP. Not interested in max snow traction. Looking for the best compromise between dry road handling and snow traction. I don't drive my bmw when there's alot of snow anyway. Got a 4x4 with studded tires for that

I'm struggling with a similar decision. I have a 335i and live in Minneapolis. I've been using LM-60's the past 3 years and they were ok. I'm seriously considering Hankook I*Cept Evo's. Anyone have any experience with them?

Is it true that mileage would decrease exponentially if driven in dry weather?

I was looking at LM70's. But not sure if I should get it.
