Lease is up soon....thinking of some interesting possibilities

My lease on my 335 is up within the next couple months, and I started thinking. My friend has a 98 540i and I honestly love driving his car. For me the E39 represents a period where BMW was truly on their game, whereas I think the current generations are amazing cars, but have lost the soul that the E39 possesses. So, I was thinking. I am tempted to buy an older BMW. I was thinking about maybe getting something like this:http://enthusiastauto.com/qsearch/?i...orm_display=51 or possibly an E39 M5. For those who have owned older cars before, what are your thoughts? I could wait and see if I like the 4 series coupe, or just lease a F30 M sport, but I'm getting kinda bored with my car....keep in mind my car is a stick now and I do track it, so I am a little concerned that a 740i sport might be too boring, but I want something new and different.

I'd say try and get an e39 m5. Amazing power and sheer beauty.

That 7 series looks great and at the time was the best handling big car on the market. It would probably be great to own if expensive to repair. How about a used E90 M3? Different enough from your 335 and a spectacular car in every way.

I'm also bored with mine and almost pulled the trigger on a well kept e39 M5 from Enthusiast auto. Just do it...I have regrets and the e39 M5 I was considering is now gone, but they still have a few low mileage options. GL

I was in the same boat as you.

A 2000-03 M5 with high mileage will run you at least $25k EASY. With no availability of warranty OR maintenance, etc.

I scooped up a 335i instead.

idk how your bored of your 335i both my brothers have a e39 m5. they both love it! you can probably pick a nice one with 50-80k miles for around 20-23. i seen a nice one with 63k go for 21500. they will always keep their value aswell I think you would like it more then the 7 series because its sporty and luxury as well.. half 335i half 7 seriess

I own the car above, just in Anthracite Gray: a 2001 740i M Sport. Let me tell you, you won't regret the move at all. The e38 spanks the modern BMW's in terms of soul and still has a nice list of amenities. The car feels so much more solid then the e90, and has a very balanced personality because it handles great while riding comfortably. My tech told me a story that when the 740i M Sport was in dealerships, he took a new M3 out while his friend took the 740i out, and he had to kick the tail out on the M3 in a long sweeping turn just to keep up with the 7. It gets many more looks and interest than my F02 or e90 does, and it's my favorite out of my cars. The only hang up is they're an arm and a leg to fix, and many non-mechanical things go wrong with it as well. Also, watch out for the suspension components being worn because it's very harsh on suspension wear. Sometimes it gets to the point where a good condition non sport can drive nicer than a sport with worn suspension. Look for a later '01 because they have the WIDESCREEN navigation instead of the little screen. The car above has an aftermarket nav btw.

I'm a member of the e38 forums if you want to browse around: http://forums.bimmerforums.com/forum...play.php?f=274

Do it and you won't regret it. Post pics.
