Asteroid Mini Install
Hey everyone,
This is my first post but have been reading for several months now when looking to purchase my BMW and ended up landing a 06 325i in almost like new condition with just over 60k. I'm loving it. Anyways, one of the things it did not have was bluetooth. I mainly wanted it for music streaming which the OEM module couldn't do anyways, so I was going to go after market whether it had it or not. After much research I landed on the Parrot Asteroid Mini. It offered a lot of features and I picked it up for under 2 bills, so It wasn't super expensive. What is cool about the Asteroid Mini in particular is it will pair with your phone and its internet connection. Once you have tethered it, there are about 15 apps or so you can download and use that connection with. Some options are great, some just gimmicky, but the one I love the most is TuneIn. Pretty much every internet radio station is available on here so there is no lack of content. There is also a weather app and a messenger app which is handy. It links up with waze using the built GPS to notify of any accidents or cops which is pretty cool. It also supports Spotify but I do not currently pay for a subscription, but I am thinking about it now. The cool thing about Spotify is it will download the songs you want to listen to, to an SD card for later. The unit has a number of input options. 2 USB ports, Aux In, Streaming Bluetooth, and SD card. So pretty much anything with or that plays music can hook up with this thing. A few sad notes about this whole install is that even though the Asteroid mini has line outs to bypass the built in parrot amplifier, after hooking it up using these the radio just produces static when the parrot isn't playing, so the unit is hooked in through the BMW's Auxiliary. Also it takes about 35 seconds for it to boot up, connect to your phone, and use. The icing on the cake is that the whole unit is controller with a remote with a jog wheel. Kind of like iDrives distant cousin. So you can keep your eyes on the road while you find your music. I would love to hook up an external speaker to this so I can receive calls on any input of the radio, but I'm not sure if there is a way to only send calls to the speaker or if everything has to go to the speaker. If anyone has any answers, please let me know. ![]() Thanks And now for pictures ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Just double sided tape that was included. Seems to be holding up well. We will see in about a month or so. It looks higher than it is. The lock button and the DTC button are completely accessible. The cold/heat is also accessible with a little work.
