Need advice: One of my spark plugs is "gummy" (see picture)
My mechanic said these were the original spark plugs with 63,000 miles on the car. Should I be worried about the gummy spark plug?

I haven't changed mine yet on my e90 but those look about right to me for every other car I've worked on. I don't see a problem. Did your mechanic mention anything bad about them?

It would be the right time to do it before the misfires happens. Bad plugs can wear out your coils. WAY cheaper to replace the plugs then the coils.

I think the OP means the last one in the row (bottom of the picture). Look at the threads...

Black is oil burning/residue on your spark plugs. The brown/whitish is normal. See this as a guide for what your plugs are telling you about your motor.....
http://www.mudinmyblood.net/forum/im...park_plugs.jpg More than likely the plug that is fouled black, is from oil dripping onto the top of the plug and slowly seeping through. This will cause oil fouling on your plug and on the contact. It was probably the plug right next to your 710 cap. |
