Nothing like walnut trim in a 2012 car

110% agreed man. Got a RWD this time around and SO glad I did.

One thing to think about when you take a turbo-charged loaner--do you think the last driver actually topped the tank off with high-test? Is that what you guys do? Can make a noticeable difference.

Doubtful they do. No one cares about the loaners, they all throw cheapo 87 gas in em (except for me, I put in V-Power).

I got the aluminum, but if I could go back in time, I would get the gray poplar instead. Classy yet sporty.

BMW has taken cost cutting measures since 2008 due to the Euro/$ exchange rate. The dollar has gotten much stronger since then.
Somehow my early 2009 335i coupe has the black poplar trim, and I agree with the OP, it's fantastic looking and I do believe that I prefer it to a more traditional walnut etc. Of course my car is black, black, and black so the trim goes nicely with the theme

Exactly. Wood is for Jags not sports cars/sedans.

The burl wood trim on the dash and doors. It is poplar wood vs walnut. New cars have Bamboo, really cheesy looking.
I Think the bamboo looks just fine- it goes with my black sapphire exterior and coral red interior perfectly.
I was dead set on brushed aluminum at first but this definitely looks pretty good.
