Hey guys,

Finally a few JB4 G5 ISO dynos posted for your viewing enjoyment. Reviews of the new boost control scheme have been great and they plan to move it to BETA shortly! You guys will absolutely love it!

The car is our 2008 automatic 135i with the following mods:

JB4 G5 ISO
Map 8 w/ 80 Additive
RB Turbos
BMS Downpipes
BMS DCI
BMS 2.2g meth kit w/ CM14 nozzle, running straight ethanol
BMS flash
BT Intercooler
CPE chargepipe w/ Tial valve
OEM catback
Fuel: 50% E98, 50% 91 octane

The main objective was to evaluate the new ISO boost control scheme along with some VANOS changes I've been toying with in the flash. Overall, the car performed very well. The new control scheme (using _9 version) worked perfectly out of the box with no tuning changes needed on the dyno. The VANOS changes on the other hand were a bit mixed. I don't want to go in to extensive details on what we're doing there but it's similar to what Cobb does on their S2+ tuning, and it resulted in average gains of 4-5whp at higher RPM along with improved timing stability. I suppose at this level a few free HP never hurts.

Attached are two dyno runs using the OEM VANOS tuning and one using the new logic.

Man those results look outstanding.. I'm very impressed how straight E85 reacted to it with the new ISO is doing some wonderful things not only on the street, but on the dyno as well straight E85 sounds very entertaining to start toying with... Already spent the money why not put some back in my pocket by saving gas money... Better than race gas results.. Would like to see the difference of straight E85 and STRAIGHT RACE GAS...E85 is def by far the better bang for your buck but which one performs better? From these dyno results and logs, the car really LIKES IT with the new firmware, doesnt it? Very exciting times for those that have E85 available

Terry, are you planning to dyno a stock set of turbos with E85 and the G5 board?

nice power! so he running straight ethanol instead of methanol ? Im guessing this is to give a similar affect of 100% E85 but does not have to run through the fuel pumps? that was an educated guess, correct me if i am wrong.

He did already, he hit 441 whp with E85 + methanol IIRC.

He's running a 50% ethanol blend with pump gas + methanol on top. Only way to fuel this thing for that power level without leaning out it seems.

that threw me off. Im sure he meant methanol. Out of curiosity, can you run straight ethanol through a meth system?

No, he meant ethanol and YES your can run straight ethanol.

correct thats what i run, no need to buy methanol which is also much more dangerous inhaled.

Great stuff with just ALPHA testing. I can't wait to see finalized results when it's fully BETA.

Great that these results are on an automatic with arguable more drivetrain loss. This could, in theory, be 525-530rwhp on a manual transmission car with the same set-up and conditions.

Not only that, but in Terry's earlier test, when fluid started to flow, it affected his RWHP #'s in a bad way. I wonder if he tested with and without fluid, whether alcohol or methanol? He's also not completely FBO (just has downpipes), not running 93octane, so there maybe another 10-15rwhp in the mix. And it looks like there's another 1-2psi left in the RB's.

He is still running the original inlet tubes as well, which likely begin to pose a real choke point to airflow fed to the turbos at this power level... So there could be a little more yet. Great numbers either way!!

Its important to note that you should not be putting E85 in your alcahol injection system, but pure ethanol is ok. The petroleum products in E85 would destroy an alcohol injection kit in no time.

Ethanol will not offer the same level of performance as methanol, but it is considered safer.

Here's a quick rundown of the differences between the two, taken from http://www.alcoholinjectionsystems.c...icle_info.html

"The main distinction between methanol and ethanol is that methanol has a lower caloric weight (or the amount of energy available to burn when combusted), higher specific heat (takes more heat to burn the mixture) and a high heat of vaporization (when vaporized can cool down intake air temps dramatically). Ethanol is generally the same characteristics and properties as methanol, but does not cool down the intake charge as well and as mentioned above costs substantially more then methanol.

For engines that are fueled solely by methanol, such as race engines, it’s quite common to see ice form on the outside of the intake manifolds during operation. Methanol is able to cool down the intake air temperatures entering the cylinder head so well, that when used as the primary fuel on a forced induction engines, an intercooler is not needed no matter what the boost levels are. Most surprisingly, engines can also be ran without a radiator. This being a true testament to the cooling effects offered by methanol when.
